Learn Yogic Meditation with Dr Keith Lowenstein

Join us to learn and practice kriya meditation. This workshop will introduce you step by step to the four basic active practices of krīya. Taught by Keith Lowenstein, MD, MDiv. No experience nor particular level of fitness or flexibility needed. "Think you can't meditate? This style of meditation is perfect for you! Experienced meditator? At the heart of all the various forms of yoga today sits meditation, which is yoga in its essence. Krīya yoga is a foundational Himalayan meditation system, based on the rāja or ‘royal’ yoga described in Patañjali’s classic Yoga Sūtra, which shows how to focus our attention inward to appreciate subtle aspects of our own mind and body, deeply enhancing our experience of life. Ganesh Baba, teacher of Dr. Lowenstein, is in the direct lineage of Lahiri Mahasaya, described in the celebrated Autobiography of a Yogi. ABOUT YOUR TEACHER Keith Lowenstein, M.D., M.Div. has taught Kriya yoga meditation since 1980, passing down the life work of Ganesh Baba’s synthesis of how to modulate the human experience through the dynamic breath work and meditation practice of Kriya. In Ganesh Baba’s words, ”Kriya tunes up the human bio-psychic apparatus such that it can operate in its Optimal Operational Order.” Keith spent five years living with and learning from Ganesh Baba. He was fortunate enough to be one of Ganesh Baba’s last students and spent those years practicing and teaching alongside him. Keith also received Kriya yoga meditation instruction from Parmahansa Hariharananda whose teacher was Sri Yukteswar and Paramahansa Yogananda. Prior to Kriya yoga, Keith learned TM meditation in 1972 and in 1977 had other training with Hilda Charlton, a student of both Paramahansa Yoganada and Bhagavan Nityananda, the teacher of Swami Muktananda . In the percussive dance world, she directs the moving choir MoToR/dance, is co-founder of the International Body Music Festival, and is an ace freestyle flatfooter. In the trad world, Evie teaches banjo and harmony singing at the infamous Freight &amp; Salvage, online at Peghead Nation and numerous camps. In the songwriter world, she just writes great songs. Our communities are divided. We need to remember how it is to listen and connect below the noise of daily life. One way to experience this is with Warm Data practices. What is a Warm Data Lab? It's like the best after-dinner conversations you’ve ever had, with people you may have never met before. Participants share their stories and observations about a common question, moving at will among small groups and inside conversations to explore their perspectives from multiple viewpoints. Moves whenever and wherever your curiosity takes you, listening to and often sharing whatever occurs to you. At the end, we come back together as one group and offer what we’ve noticed, weaving together the sense we’ve been making. These experiences have been described as a “kaleidoscope of conversation,” packed with enriching stories, laughter, and insight. Your experience may nourish you soul, transform your approach to work, life, and community, and perhaps, create space for new relationships to flourish. They may even plant new seeds for community projects to renew and revitalize community life. Cost: $10-25. Please don't let cost be an impediment to your joining us! How do I prepare? No prep needed!
