English Country Dancing

Join us for English country dancing! No experience needed. Come to dance, play with musicians, or just enjoy. Live music! Friendly folks! We provide sheet music for musicians. Donations for our caller welcome, not required. YOUR TEACHER/CALLER Cammy Kaynor is leading/calling/teaching our dance. Cammy has led country dances for nearly 50 years. He has performed all over the United States and Sweden as both a soloist and leader of traditional country dance bands. He began his classical training with noted experts throughout New England, including Bernard Krainis of New York Pro Musica. He has founded many dance series in the Pioneer Valley of western Mass. as well as the Boston area. Many of these dances have acquired national acclaim, such as The Northfield Contradance (Northfield, MA), Monday Night Contradances at the Unitarian Church (Amherst, MA), and English Country Dance Balls. WHAT IS IT A country dance is any of a very large number of social dances of a type that originated in England in the British Isles; it is the repeated execution of a predefined sequence of figures, carefully designed to fit a fixed length of music, performed by a group of people, usually in couples, in one or more sets. The figures involve interaction with your partner and/or with other dancers, usually with a progression so that you dance with everyone in your set. It is common in modern times to have a "caller" who teaches the dance and then calls the figures as you dance. DIRECTIONS Walk up the driveway, turn right to enter the courtyard and come through the glass doors. If you drive: Park in the driveway to the left of the entrance (but NOT in the parking lot to the left of the driveway). First Sunday Taizé Evening Service

Please join us for this hour-long contemplative service. We invite you to participate in singing simple songs or listen. No preparation needed. Taizé prayer services combine silence and song, candlelight and stillness, prayer and contemplation. Taizé chants are simple refrains repeated, mantra-like, by the whole congregation, while instrumental and vocal soloists may occasionally add verses on top of the repeated refrains. The accessible music invites participation. Repeating the refrains invites slowing down and entering a contemplative state. The result is to gradually move prayer from the head to the heart. Service structure Several songs A short reading Meditation Several songs Closing Taizé’s name comes from the village in eastern France which, for over 50 years, has been the home of the ecumenical Christian monastic community which developed this distinctive style of prayer. Although the original Taizé format borrowed much from a wide variety of international languages and traditions, much of its music was created particularly for the community by noted liturgical musicians. Parking Our parking lot has space for three cars during the week, including a handicap accessible space. On the weekend, visitors and members can park in the adjacent lot for the Beebe school free of charge. There is also on-street parking on Elm Street an in the neighborhood nearby, as posted. Join us for some cheerful jamming! We're mixed-level acoustic music players and lovers. And we love singing! Our musical tastes range from jug band to folk to rock to pop to gospel to Americana. Yeah, eclectic! We're mostly ukulele players—our song sheets favor ukes—however, some of us play guitar, banjo, mandolin, washboard, viola, clarinet, etc.; if you play any acoustic instrument, please join us. Learn Yogic Meditation with Dr Keith Lowenstein

Join us to learn and practice kriya meditation. This workshop will introduce you step by step to the four basic active practices of krīya. Taught by Keith Lowenstein, MD, MDiv. Krīya yoga is a foundational Himalayan meditation system, based on the rāja or ‘royal’ yoga described in Patañjali’s classic Yoga Sūtra, which shows how to focus our attention inward to appreciate subtle aspects of our own mind and body, deeply enhancing our experience of life. Ganesh Baba, teacher of Dr. Lowenstein, is in the direct lineage of Lahiri Mahasaya, described in the celebrated Autobiography of a Yogi. ABOUT YOUR TEACHER Keith Lowenstein, M.D., M.Div. has taught Kriya yoga meditation since 1980, passing down the life work of Ganesh Baba’s synthesis of how to modulate the human experience through the dynamic breath work and meditation practice of Kriya. In Ganesh Baba’s words, ”Kriya tunes up the human bio-psychic apparatus such that it can operate in its Optimal Operational Order.” Keith spent five years living with and learning from Ganesh Baba. He was fortunate enough to be one of Ganesh Baba’s last students and spent those years practicing and teaching alongside him. Keith also received Kriya yoga meditation instruction from Parmahansa Hariharananda whose teacher was Sri Yukteswar and Paramahansa Yogananda. Prior to Kriya yoga, Keith learned TM meditation in 1972 and in 1977 had other training with Hilda Charlton, a student of both Paramahansa Yoganada and Bhagavan Nityananda, the teacher of Swami Muktananda . Our communities are divided. We need to remember how it is to listen and connect below the noise of daily life. One way to experience this is with Warm Data practices. What is a Warm Data Lab? It's like the best after-dinner conversations you’ve ever had, with people you may have never met before. Participants share their stories and observations about a common question, moving at will among small groups and inside conversations to explore their perspectives from multiple viewpoints. Moves whenever and wherever your curiosity takes you, listening to and often sharing whatever occurs to you. At the end, we come back together as one group and offer what we’ve noticed, weaving together the sense we’ve been making. These experiences have been described as a “kaleidoscope of conversation,” packed with enriching stories, laughter, and insight. Your experience may nourish you soul, transform your approach to work, life, and community, and perhaps, create space for new relationships to flourish.
