First Sunday Taizé Evening Service

Please join us for this hour-long contemplative service. We invite you to participate in singing simple songs or listen. No preparation needed. Taizé prayer services combine silence and song, candlelight and stillness, prayer and contemplation. Taizé chants are simple refrains repeated, mantra-like, by the whole congregation, while instrumental and vocal soloists may occasionally add verses on top of the repeated refrains. The accessible music invites participation. Repeating the refrains invites slowing down and entering a contemplative state. The result is to gradually move prayer from the head to the heart. Service structure Several songs A short reading Meditation Several songs Closing Taizé’s name comes from the village in eastern France which, for over 50 years, has been the home of the ecumenical Christian monastic community which developed this distinctive style of prayer. Although the original Taizé format borrowed much from a wide variety of international languages and traditions, much of its music was created particularly for the community by noted liturgical musicians. On the weekend, visitors and members can park in the adjacent lot for the Beebe school free of charge. There is also on-street parking on Elm Street an in the neighborhood nearby, as posted.
