Join us for a poetry-focused international concert series with composers Mary Bichner (former Artist-in-Residence) and Christina Goh. Please note this performance is a pay what you can program, with a suggested ticket price of $10. All are welcome to attend at a level that feels accessible. “Rencontres Poétiques: Poetic Encounters” is a poetry-focused international concert series created by composer and former Artist-in-Residence Mary Bichner [USA] and Christina Goh [France]. The series features musical settings composed by Bichner and Goh for classic poems in both French and English; inspired by the works of Phillis Wheatley, Ovid, Edgar Allan Poe, Benjamin Franklin, Emily Dickinson, and more. Each version of the concert is customized to the venue and city in which it is performed, often with works either hand-selected or newly-composed for the occasion. As fall comes around the corner, let the tranquility of Mount Auburn inspire your practice. Guided Rest and Nature Walk Experience

An outdoor workshop at Mount Auburn focused on Yoga Nidra, a dream-like mindfulness meditation. <a href="https://www.tenderfloweryoga.com/">Federica Torri</a> will lead an outdoor workshop focused on Yoga Nidra, a dream-like mindfulness meditation where attendees will be guided through an imagery journey. Students are welcome to lie on mats or blankets throughout the meditation. A silent nature walk will follow this meditation. The meditation will take place on <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/4kQFVdiXWAjwsEkRA">Bigelow Lawn</a>, in front of the large grey chapel in the middle of the Cemetery and the location is subject to change due to inclement weather. Join <a href="https://www.stefaniehaug.com/">Stefanie Haug (LICSW</a>), ecotherapist and nature and meditation guide for a mindful summer nature walk designed to help you both slow down and “wake up.” Slowly walking together, participants will engage in pausing to notice budding leaves, shifting light, and the quiet hum of renewal. Along the way, you’ll be guided with simple meditative prompts to reconnect to your breath, your senses, and the subtle energy of new beginnings unfolding all around you. As the natural world stretches into bloom all around us, feel your spirit awaken alongside it. Come as you are. Suitable for all ages and bodies and interests. Slow-paced walk around the cemetery with pauses and a chance to sit and observe. Bring water and something to sit on, if desired. Yin and Yang: A Continuous Cut (Traditional Chinese Papercutting Workshop)

Traditional Chinese Papercutting Workshop at Mount Auburn Cemetery Join artist Zhonghe (Elena) Li for a hands-on introduction to traditional Chinese papercutting through the interconnected forms of Yin and Yang. Participants will learn how to create a Yin-Yang design using a continuous-cutting technique, exploring the essence of seemingly opposite forces. Inspired by Mount Auburn Cemetery as a place of remembrance and reflection, Elena will also briefly share stories and images from her recent trip to China, including motifs found in Eastern Han tombs that offer glimpses into ancient Chinese ideas about life, death, and the afterlife. Through papercutting, we will reflect on continuity, transformation, and the connections between seemingly opposite aspects of existence. No prior papercutting experience is needed. All materials will be provided.

Sunset Sound Bath Meditation

Sound Healing practitioner <a href="http://leelayogawellness.com/">Marlene Boyette</a> welcomes all to be held by the earth, to find refuge, to rest, and to be led through a guided meditation intended to bring the mind and the body into unison, while also engaging the senses. Weaving together the sounds, vibrations, and energy of our natural surroundings with a variety of instruments (including deeply resonant crystal and metal singing bowls and chimes), participants will be bathed in layered sonic acoustics. The experience will close with an opportunity for all to reflect and set intentions for the new season through dialogue and / or journaling. What to bring: a yoga mat, blanket or towel, a journal, and writing utensil. Plastic folding chairs will be available if needed. Event Capacity: 50

Birds of Prey at Mount Auburn 

Julie and Jim of <a href="https://www.wingmasters.net/">WINGMASTERS</a> will introduce attendees to live birds of prey native to New England. This presentation will explain predation, the birds' place at the top of the food web, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. Two sessions are being offered on Sunday, August 23 at 10:30am and1:00pm. Space is limited, Registration required. PLEASE NOTE: By request of program facilitators, this event is for ages 6 and up only. All attendees must be at least 6 years old to attend. Capacity: 100 people per showing

Evy in the Garden: Live Music & Theatre Performance

A transformative performance on grief, created by composer, poet, and producer, Carolyn Surrick, accompanied by actress Laurie O'Brien. Evy in the Garden is returning to Mount Auburn this July! This spare and stunning new work by Carolyn Surrick is a window into a family’s grief, a poignant reminder of the unending boundaries of love, a vehicle for memory, and a place where words and music meet to make room for the aching heart. Actress Laurie O’Brien and Surrick’s viola da gamba bring to life the southern Maryland summer days that follow the sudden death of a young man. In the same way that the most beautiful and most terrible things often stand side by side, so does this quiet testament to life, family, and sorrow, examining a road winding from tragedy to grace. This performance will be held on Friday, July 24 at 6:00pm.&nbsp;
