Pattern & Place: Wallpapers of the Gore Mansion, 1806-Present

From May 8&nbsp;through July 10 visitors to Gore Place will get to view a special exhibition of Gore Place wallpapers as part of the Mansion tour.&nbsp; Guests interested in seeing the exhibition should make a tour reservation using the link below. Walk-ins are also welcome. Tours start on the hour at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.&nbsp; For more information, visit goreplace.org

John Muratore Carriage House Concert

Acclaimed guitarist John Muratore will perform music in the beautiful 1793 Carraige House at Gore Place. John regularly appears as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician. The Boston Globe has called John's playing "...aural iridescence..." and the Boston Musical Intelligencer has called him "one of greater Boston’s most gifted guitar virtuosos. Enjoy classical music in an historic space.

Devil's in the Details Tour

Do you love design details and perhaps a little mystery? Come take a tour of the mansion and learn about the history of our wallcoverings plus the challenges involved in antique wallpaper reproduction. We’ll examine Gore Place’s original “painted papers” as well as some of the vibrant wallpapers that have been removed and preserved in our collections room. We’ll discuss the poisons that made antique wallpaper so vivid, view photographs of the mansion at the turn of the 20th century and explore the curious origins of our Devil’s Wallpaper. $25 General Admission, $20 Gore Place Members, $15 Card to Culture

The Ruth and Ben String Band

Led by guitarist&nbsp;Ruth Rappaport&nbsp;and her fiddler son,&nbsp;Ben Wetherbee,&nbsp;this intergenerational band's repertoire includes rousing, powerful old-time fiddle tunes and traditional, modern, and original songs that feature tight harmony singing. They are very spirited and people of all ages love their enthusiastic and innovative music. Ruth played for many years in the eclectic string band The Poodles, and Ben has made a mark for himself as a popular old-time, roots rock, and alt music fiddler. The string band is rounded out by Joel Wennerstrom on clawhammer banjo and Gian Criscitiello on upright bass. Chamber Pot and Hygiene Tour of Gore Mansion

Join us for an evening tour of the 1806 Mansion at Gore Place. all about chamber pots and hygiene in the early 19th century, a quirky but fascinating subject!You’ll see the graceful Great Stairs, the lovely Oval Withdrawing Room, the Peacock Parlor, the Great Hall, the bedchambers, sitting rooms, and more. The style and quality of the furnishings, the many Boston-built pieces, and the fabulous personal touches make this one of New England’s best historic house tours.

The World of Robert Roberts Tour of the Gore Mansion

Enjoy an evening tour of the 1806 Gore mansion highlighting the life and activism of Robert Roberts, author of the House Servant’s Directory (1827), Boston-based abolitionist, and onetime butler at Gore Place. The tour also highlights other activists and prominent Black leaders from the Boston area, some of whom worked with Roberts in the fight for equality in early 19th Century America. Along the way, you will see the beautiful Great Stairs, Peacock Parlor, Library, Withdrawing Room, Bed Chambers and Servant’s Quarters of the impressive 1806 mansion.&nbsp;

Mrs. Wilberforce Carriage House Concert

The duo of Kyra Davies, fiddle, viola, vocals; and Sean Smith, guitar, bouzouki, tenor banjo, vocals; play music from Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton – but also further afield, like Shetland, Brittany and Galicia, among other places, bringing out the distinctive qualities of each tune or song for the enjoyment of their audiences. Boston-built Furniture Tour of the Gore Mansion

Gore Place is famous for its collection of fine furnishings, including a good number of Boston-built pieces, some by Thomas Seymour and Isaac Vose. Take an evening tour of the 1806 mansion, highlighting these Boston-built pieces. Along the way you will see the Great Stairs, reception hall, oval withdrawing room and more.

The New Grown-Ups Carriage House Concert

Fiddle, banjo, cello and bass, the winners of the 2024 Thomas Point Beach Festival Band Contest bring their unique take on traditional American music. This concert takes place in the beautiful, air-conditioned 1793 Carriage House. The venue is ideal for acoustic music. Taking a modern twist on American roots music, The New Grown-ups blend traditional blues, country, old-time, originals, and bluegrass into a heady blend of contemporary music.

The duo Sultana weaves history, original songs, and a slideshow for a unique and fun look at U.S. history and legends. In their new program,The American Story in Song, created for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the duo Sultana weaves history, original songs, and a slideshow for a unique and fun look at U.S. history and legends. It is a story of heroes and celebrities, immigrants and indigenous peoples, injustices and progress. Visits are paid to a legendary heroine, a sports superstar, a technological feat, a media circus and much more. This program takes place in the Carriage House at Gore Place. Parking is free. Things that Go Bump in the Night

This Halloween season, join a tour of the beautiful 1806 Gore Mansion and hear creepy stories from Gore Place's rich history: tales of lady pirates, escapees, drownings, and strange goings on over the 300 years of the Gore estate. Along the way you'll see the mansion in a new (and slightly creepy!) light.

New England Irish Harp Orchestra Carriage House Concerta 

The Irish harp is the original instrument of Irish traditional music and has a beautiful, etheric quality. This wonderful group of harpers, fiddlers, flutists, and singers performs traditional Irish tunes. The group is led by Regina Delaney, an Irish harper, singer, and dancer. Living in the Dark Tour of the Gore Mansion

What was life like before the electric light? Find out on an evening visit to the 1806 mansion at Gore Place. You’ll see the graceful Great Stairs, the lovely Oval Withdrawing Room, the Peacock Parlor, the Great Hall, bed chambers, sitting rooms, and more. Along the way, your guide will tell stories about living by candlelight and point out the many devices used to light the house in the early 1800s.
