Farmer Scott's Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale

FRIDAY, MAY 16 from 9 to 3; SATURDAY, MAY 17 from 9 to 5; SUNDAY, MAY 18 from 9 to 12noon. Farmer Scott’s Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale at Gore Place returns! Fill your garden with vegetable transplants, grown on the Farm at Gore Place. Choose from varieties of hard-to-find heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, herbs, and customer-favorites marigolds! It's not just the great plants that make this sale special; Farmer Scott has been growing vegetables for almost 50 years, and he has deep knowledge of these varieties and is onsite and ready to share! According to Scott, "We get lots of return customers. They count on us to provide the rare varieties that commercial nurseries don't carry." The sale will take place on the Farm and there will be plenty of free parking (enter at 249 Waltham Street). There will be no online sales this year. Chamber Pot and Hygiene Tour of the mansion at Gore Place

Join an expert guide for a moonlight tour of the 1806 mansion at Gore Place. You’ll see the graceful Great Stairs, the lovely Oval Withdrawing Room, the Peacock Parlor, the Great Hall, the bedchambers, sitting rooms, and more. The theme will be&nbsp;“Chamber Pots and Hygiene in the early 19th century,”&nbsp;a quirky but fascinating subject! The style and quality of the furnishings, the many Boston-built pieces, and the fabulous personal touches make this one of New England’s best historic house tours. Parking is free. Concerts in the Carriage House: John Muratore

Acclaimed guitarist John Muratore will perform a concert of music arranged for classical guitar in the beautiful 1793 Carriage House at Gore Place. The Boston Globe has called John's playing "...aural iridescence..." and the Boston Musical Intelligencer has called him "one of greater Boston’s most gifted guitar virtuosos." Tickets are $21, $19 members, $16 students. Parking is free.

Concerts in the Carriage House: Mrs. Wilberforce

The duo of Kyra Davies, fiddle, viola, vocals; and Sean Smith, guitar, bouzouki, tenor banjo, vocals; play music from Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton – but also further afield, like Shetland, Brittany and Galicia, among other places, bringing out the distinctive qualities of each tune or song for the enjoyment of their audiences. This program takes place in the Carriage House at Gore Place. Parking is free.

The World of Robert Roberts

Enjoy an evening tour of the 1806 Gore mansion highlighting the life and activism of Robert Roberts, author of the House Servant’s Directory (1827), Boston-based abolitionist, and onetime butler at Gore Place. The tour also highlights other activists and prominent Black leaders from the Boston area, some of whom worked with Roberts in the fight for equality in early 19th Century America. Along the way, you will see the beautiful Great Stairs, Peacock Parlor, Library, Withdrawing Room, Bed Chambers and Servant’s Quarters of the impressive 1806 mansion. Admission is free, but space is limited.&nbsp;

Concerts in the Carriage House: Ruth Rappaport and Ben Wetherbee

Guitarist Ruth Rappaport plays the traditional music of America, Ireland, and the British Isles.&nbsp;Ruth has performed throughout New England with many traditional music groups.&nbsp;Ben Wetherbee is an exciting fiddler and harmonica player.&nbsp;Hold on to your hats because their music is hard-driving! The concert will take place in the beautifully restored 1793 Carriage House. Parking is free.

Join singer and songwriter Jon Waterman on a musical journey through the roots of American popular music! a program of songs and stories about the origins of the blues, rock, and country music.&nbsp;The program, which also features an accompanying slideshow, explores some of the fascinating characters and events that are part of that history and the role of music in our lives. This program is supported by a grant from the Waltham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Half Past Four Concert in the Carriage House at Gore Place

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6 @ 7:00 PM The Half Past Four is an old-timey string quartet that plays American roots music especially tunes from around Appalachia.&nbsp;Featuring banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and hurdy-gurdy, the band delivers a mix of toe-tapping instrumentals and soulful songs. Rich vocal harmonies and a solid groove make&nbsp;for fun that strictly shouldn’t be legal. This concert takes place in the beautiful 1793 Carriage House at Gore Place. Parking is free.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 @ 7:00 PM Taking a modern twist on American roots music, The New Grown-ups blend traditional blues, country, old-time, originals, and bluegrass into a heady blend of contemporary music. Fiddle, banjo, cello and bass, the winners of the 2024&nbsp;Thomas Point Beach Festival Band Contest bring their unique take on traditional American music.&nbsp;This concert takes place in the beautiful, airconditioned 1793 Carriage House. The venue is ideal for acoustic music. $21, $19 members. Free parking.&nbsp;

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29 @ 7:00 PM The Irish harp is the original instrument of Irish traditional music and has a beautiful, etheric quality. This wonderful group of harpers, fiddlers, flutists, and singers performs traditional Irish tunes. The group is led by Regina Delaney, an Irish harper, singer, and dancer. May Bird Walk at Gore Place

May Bird Walk Saturday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Spring is here, which means songbirds are back! Grab your binoculars and join an expert guide on a bird walk around the Farm. See, hear, and learn about birds at Gore Place. Try to spot our year-round avian residents as well as those who've recently returned. From flycatchers to hawks, from woodpeckers to warblers, come see which birds are making themselves at home at Gore Place. All ages are welcome. $10. Free to Gore Place members and Brookline Bird Club members.

Needle Felting Workshop

We are excited to welcome back Rachel Benson of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thefiberweb.com/">The Fiber Web</a>&nbsp;to run a class on needle felting. Participants will be guided through the process of making their own wool felt sheep. The workshop will take place at our Farm, so you may even have the chance to work from a live model! All supplies will be provided. Participants will take home their creations as well as have the option to purchase needle felting supplies to try new projects at home. Space is limited, so make sure to reserve your spot! $40. Advance tickets required. This workshop is intended for ages 13 and up.

The Gore Place Sheepshearing Festival

Since 1987, this annual agricultural festival has entertained guests with music, 100+ craft and fiber artists, demonstrations of traditional shearing and herding dogs, and historic re-enactors on the beautiful grounds of this historic, 50-acre estate. People often tell us that spring doesn't begin until the Sheepshearing Festival! According to Director of Farm and Landscape Operations, Scott Clarke, "We're bringing back our visitors' Festival favorites, like seeing traditional shearing techniques and dog herding demonstrations, and simply enjoying a great time outdoors with family and friends." Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets allowed. Advance tickets are on sale now!
