John Muratore Holiday Concert

Acclaimed guitarist John Muratore will perform a special holiday program in the beautiful 1793 Carriage House at Gore Place. The Jane Austen Smackdown

Over the past few years, two colleagues&nbsp;in the English Department—Rebekah Mitsein, who teaches a course on Jane Austen at Boston College, and Paul Lewis, who teaches a course on Poe and the Gothic—have argued which of these authors is more interesting. Now, they bring the debate to Gore Place. On&nbsp;Sunday, November 17, at 3 pm, the gloves will come off in this no-holds-barred rumble in which Elizabeth Bennet will finally meet her match in Madeline Usher and ravens will fly over Pemberley! $25 General admission; $20 Members and Card to Culture

New England Harp

The Irish harp is the original instrument of Irish traditional music and has a beautiful, etheric quality. This wonderful group of harpers, fiddlers, flutists, and singers performs traditional Irish tunes. The group is led by Regina Delaney, an Irish harper, singer, and dancer. This concert will take place in the beautiful 1793 Carriage House. Parking is free.

Frightful Fridays

Friday, October 11, 18 and 25 @ 6:30 and 7:45 PM Enjoy spooky tales, but nothing too scary! The 45-minute program features stories told by four storytellers in four different rooms. Our friendly witches will lead you from room to room and make sure you aren’t troubled by ghosts! This program is designed for adults and children ages 6 and up. We recommend you bring children to the earlier session. Capacity is limited. Advance tickets are available now. $21 general admission, $16 members, $5 Card to Culture.

Laurel Martin and Friends

Laurel Martin's lyrical fiddle playing is nuanced, sweet, and true to tradition. She will be joined by guitarist Jim Prendergast, multi-instrumentalist Mark Roberts, and dancer Kieran Jordan. Join them for an evening filled with the joyful spirit of traditional music! This program takes place in the Carriage House at Gore Place. Parking is free.

The Moody Street String Band

Waltham's own Moody Street String Band has been performing traditional tunes of Scotland, Ireland, and North America together for more than 20 years! The combination of accordion, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar will fill the 1793 Carriage House with music! Join them for a celebration of all things Celtic! Friday, September 13 @ 7 PM Join an expert guide for a moonlight tour of the 1806 mansion at Gore Place. You’ll see the graceful Great Stairs, the lovely Oval Withdrawing Room, the Peacock Parlor, the Great Hall, the bedchambers, sitting rooms, and more. The theme will be “Chamber Pots and Hygiene in the early 19th century,” a quirky but fascinating subject! The style and quality of the furnishings, the many Boston-built pieces, and the fabulous personal touches make this one of New England’s best historic house tours. $21 general admission, $16 members, $5 Card to Culture

Ruth Rappaport and Ben Wetherbee

Guitarist Ruth Rappaport plays the traditional music of America, Ireland, and the British Isles.&nbsp;Ruth has performed throughout New England with many traditional music groups.&nbsp;Ben Wetherbee is an exciting fiddler and harmonica player.&nbsp;Hold on to your hats because their music is hard-driving! The concert will take place in the beautifully restored 1793 Carriage House.

The New Grown Ups

Taking a modern twist on American roots music, The New Grown-Ups blend traditional blues, country, old- time, originals, and bluegrass into a heady blend of contemporary music. This concert takes place in the beautiful 1793 Carriage House. Free parking.

The High Strung Strummers

High Strung Strummers (Cathy Mason and Sarah Jane Nelson) play a mix of Anglo-American ballads, old-time tunes, and stories, often accompanied by a Crankie narrative scroll. Crankies are like the TV of the 1800s. You'll just have to come see for yourself! This program is supported in part by a grant from the Waltham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Jane Austen Garden Party

Gore Place presents the Jane Austen Garden Party on the grounds of their beautiful 19th-century estate—a site fit for one of the celebrated author’s famous novels. Your event ticket includes tea sandwiches&nbsp;and assorted patisseries provided by <a href="https://www.vintageteaandcake.com/" target="_blank">Vintage Tea &amp; Cake Co.</a>, plus lemonade or iced tea (add a mini bottle of wine for $10 more). You'll enjoy archery, lawn games, and a stroll through the fabulous Gore Mansion. Regency Period dress is encouraged! The party starts in our spacious tent. Tables and chairs will be provided, but you may bring your own lawn chairs or picnic blankets if you wish. This event is intended for adults, but children 11 and up may attend. There will be ample free parking. The entire site is accessible, and modern indoor restrooms will be available. Gore Place and JASNA members may select the Member pricing options.
