This lunchtime faculty concert at Winchester Community Music School will bring the audience on a Sentimental Journey across generations of jazz, Broadway and popular music. Music therapist and singer <a href="https://www.winchestermusic.org/faculty/shayla-mcdermott/">Shayla McDermott</a> will weave in stories from her work as a music therapist with older adults. Join Winchester Community Music School for a collaborative solo piano concert featuring Dr. <a href="https://www.winchestermusic.org/faculty/jeong-yun-yang/">Jeong Yun Yang</a> with guest artist Dr. Minyoung Rho. As pianists from South Korea, Dr. Rho and Dr. Yang have found in the United States a vibrant environment where different styles, ideas, and histories coexist. In this diverse setting, they have seen music spark curiosity, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging. The works in this program—by Amy Beach, Mel Bonis, Clifton Callender, and Sergei Rachmaninoff—were each shaped by a similar spirit of musical interaction and communication. Music MAYnia Festival 

Music MAYnia is a free community festival that features continuous live performances, instrument demos, games, arts &amp; crafts, food trucks, and more! Student performers of all ages and abilities will perform a music marathon on four stages, indoors and outdoors, ranging from classical to rock. It’s a popular event that many community members attend—and look forward to—every year. Held rain or shine at Winchester Community Music School, 407 Highland Avenue, Winchester, MA. Join Winchester Community Music School for a special faculty concert that will feel like a night at the movies! Immerse yourself in a world of beautiful, passionate, and emotional movie music, skillfully arranged for violin, piano, and percussion. Experience iconic themes from beloved movies like Cinema Paradiso, The Secret Garden, Schindler’s List, Malèna, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Mission, The Deer Hunter, Howl’s Moving Castle, and more. We’ll also explore the enchanting compositions of celebrated actor and composer Anthony Hopkins, including “And the Waltz Goes On.” Performed by WCMS faculty member Jorge Ibáñez, piano, with Luis Ibáñez, violin, and Deborah Welsh Ibáñez, percussion. Faculty Concert: “Harmonious Heights” with the Zefira Trio 

Please join Winchester Community Music School for its second faculty concert of the season, featuring the Zefíra Trio: <a href="https://www.winchestermusic.org/faculty/olga-patramanska-bell/">Olga Patramanska-Bell</a>, violin; Ashima Scripp, cello; and Eleanor Perrone, piano. The members of the <a href="http://www.eleanorperrone.com/zefiratrio/index.php">Zefíra Trio</a> have established themselves as solo artists and chamber musicians of the highest standard. They are top prize winners of many national and international competitions and appear often as soloists with orchestras or in major recital halls across the country. They seek to engage their audiences with the artistry and depth of their performances as well as lively, informative comments on the music and its composers. This program features a dynamic mix of expressive chamber works. Robert Paterson’s Summit Trio captures the drama and beauty of nature, while Frank Bridge’s Miniatures Nos. 4-6 offer a series of intimate, character-filled piano trio pieces. The program concludes with Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in C Minor, Op. 66, a passionate and technically brilliant work that blends lyrical beauty with dramatic intensity, showcasing the composer’s mastery of form and emotion. Faculty Concert: “Let’s Make Arrangements” with the Sempervirens Ensemble

Please join Winchester Community Music School for our first Faculty Concert of the 2024-2025 season featuring the Sempervirens Ensemble at. Four virtuoso recorder players (Heloise Degrugillier, Dan Meyers, Emily O’Brien, and Roy Sansom) will present a program which comprises music from the 14th century to the present. Works will include Baroque keyboard pieces, a medieval Estampie, one of Ligiti’s Bagatelles for Wind Quintet, the scherzo from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a short piano prelude by Prokofiev, and more. The members of the ensemble felt they simply had to create arrangements to play these compelling pieces. Come enjoy two exquisite and romantic chamber pieces performed by a woodwind quintet with piano, a rare combination in chamber music. The first half of the program will consist of a beautiful wind chamber piece by Mozart, Quintet for Winds and Piano in E flat major, K452. The second half will feature Beethoven’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, Op. 16. Faculty performers and special guests will include Kyoko Hida-Battaglia, oboe; Glenn Dickson, clarinet; Dr. Jacky Ho-Yin Li, French horn; Sally Merriman, bassoon; and Dr. Sarah Tocco, piano. Please join Winchester Community Music School for its first faculty concert of the new year, featuring Ceora Jaffe on flute and guest Lysander Jaffe on viola. The haunting combination of flute and viola will be highlighted in pieces such as Reena Esmail's Nadiya, inspired by Hindustani classical music, and Divertimento by Adolphus Hailstork, dedicated as a wedding gift to two dear musician friends. These classical pieces will be paired with folk-inspired duets by Béla Bartók along with tunes from Greece and the Balkans, where Lysander has studied traditional music. MusicFest Open House 

Kick off the new school year at Winchester Community Music School’s annual MusicFest Open House. MusicFest features outdoor and indoor activities including several instrument “petting zoo” areas, live instrument demos, a scavenger hunt with prizes, musical story time, fun in the recording studio, and tours of the building. It’s free and fun for all ages! We’ll also be holding placement auditions for a wide range of bands and ensembles – all genres, all ages (kids, teens, and adults). Plus, come check out our Musical Instrument Yard Sale! Faculty and staff will be available to answer questions about enrolling for the fall. You can try out a FREE class during Demo Class Week, August 27–September 2; visit our website for full schedule and to sign up. WCMS is a non-profit school; financial aid is available.
