With adjustments to lighting and sound, limited attendance, and hands-on activities, these mornings are ideal for people with sensory needs or those managing autoimmune or chronic illnesses, offering a welcoming way to explore Boston’s revolutionary past!

This July, Revolutionary Spaces invites you to Old South Meeting House for The People’s House Party — a joyful civic celebration bringing our community together on the eve of the 250th anniversary. This year’s gala marks the start of something new. Guests will enjoy <a href="https://revolutionaryspaces.org/explore/program-calendar/ruckus-first-look/">The Exclusive First Look at Ruckus!</a>, a bold new immersive show that invites visitors inside the events and voices of the American Revolution. Expect a warm, nostalgic atmosphere with thoughtful food, vibrant storytelling, and the unmistakable magic of a Boston summer evening in a space where history was made. Let’s celebrate the spaces that bring us together, and the stories that still shape us!

Ruckus! First Look:The Encore

Join Revolutionary Spaces on Thursday, July 2, for the Ruckus! First Look Encore. Be among the first to see <a href="https://revolutionaryspaces.org/explore/exhibits/ruckus/">Ruckus!</a>, a bold new 25-minute immersive show at the Old South Meeting House that drops you into the heart of Revolutionary Boston. Watch the debates and defiance that once filled this iconic space come to life using dynamic sound, dramatic lighting, and projected animations of fiery revolutionaries, determined citizens, and a few unlikely troublemakers whose courage shook these walls. Celebrate America's 250th in the very place where ordinary people set extraordinary change in motion. Enjoy lively music, snack on summer-inspired fare and tasty drinks, and connect with fellow Boston locals. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the show begins at 8:00 PM. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before showtime to reserve your seat. To preserve the integrity of the experience, late entry will not be permitted once Ruckus! has started. Guests arriving after 8:00 PM will be admitted following the conclusion of the show. Argh, me hearties, and listen well, as we tell you the story of William Fly, the pirate whose arrest led to the end of the Golden age of piracy. As part of our Hands on History series, Revolutionary Spaces is commemorating the 300th anniversary of his trial, which took place in our very own city of Boston. Inspired by Children's Hours held at Old South Meeting House from the late 19th century through the early 20th century, Hands on History is a modern take on family fun at our historic sites and museums! Join us at the Old State House where the government that sentenced Fly once met, and participate in some pirate themed crafts and activities. Hands-On History Day activities are included in the price of general admission. Plus, ages 17 and under get into both the Old State House and Old South Meeting House for FREE all day long!

This Pride Month, join us for a variety of crafts and activities designed to help you express your true self. Activities will include paper fan-making, coloring, and a sensory table. Guests can also explore images from Revolutionary Spaces’ collection of fashion throughout Boston’s history.  Inspired by Children's Hours held at Old South Meeting House from the late 19th century through the early 20th century, Hands on History is a modern take on family fun at our historic sites and museums! Slavery and Resistance in Colonial Massachusetts

Learn how slavery was first established in colonial Massachusetts and how the practice in New England differed from southern plantation-style slavery. Discover how enslaved people in Massachusetts used religious spaces and practices, such as marriage and baptism, and government institutions like the courts and petitioning to protect their autonomy and community. You will also hear stories of resistance by Scipio Gunney, Phillis Wheatley, Zipporah Potter Atkins, and Belinda Sutton. The Slavery and Resistance in Colonial Massachusetts Tour is FREE for anyone who purchases joint museum admission to the Old State House and Old South Meeting House. Not valid with single-site admission. Tours depart from the Main Hall of the Old South Meeting House. Tours are subject to change and/or cancellation due to staff availability.

The Massacre and Memory Tour is a guided walking tour that explores the Boston Massacre and how it’s been remembered. Uncover how patriot and loyalist factions in town attempted to control the narrative surrounding the event through dueling reports circulated throughout the colonies and abroad. Discover how later generations of Bostonians used the Massacre to argue against slavery and teach the American public about Crispus Attucks, one of the Massacre’s first victims. You will also learn how Bostonians in the 1970s used the legacy of the Massacre in very different ways while debating how to address racial segregation in public schools. Led by a member of the Revolutionary Spaces Visitor Experience team, the Massacre and Memory Tour covers a half-mile, runs for approximately 75 minutes, and is capped at 20 attendees. The Massacre and Memory Tour is FREE for anyone who purchases joint museum admission to the Old State House and Old South Meeting House. Not valid with single-site admission. Tours depart from the front desk located inside the Old State House museum store. Tours are subject to change and/or cancellation due to staff availability and dangerous or extreme weather.

Abigail Adams and Mercy Otis Warren: Consequential Women in Consequential Times

Join Revolutionary Spaces and the <a href="https://theadamspresidentialcenter.org/">Adams Presidential Center</a> on Thursday, May 21 at the Old State House for a conversation that bridges past and present. Explore how women have shaped moments of consequence in American history and continue to do so today. This evening will center on two influential voices of the Revolutionary era: Abigail Adams and Mercy Otis Warren. Through their writings, advocacy, and political insight, both women helped define the ideals and debates of a nation in formation. Presented in partnership with the Adams Presidential Center, this event is free and open to the public thanks to the generous support of the <a href="https://lowellinstitute.org/">Lowell Institute</a> and the New England Women’s Club Fund.

Monthly Spotlight: Old State House & Old South Meeting House Birthdays

Happy Birthday! This month the Old State House turns 313 years old and the Old South Meeting House turns 296! These are incredible milestones that we at Revolutionary Spaces believe deserve to be celebrated all month long. As the stewards of these iconic buildings, we honor the stories held within their walls of generations of Bostonians who stood up for what they believed in.  From Massacres to Tea Parties to everyday people speaking up and petitioning to better their lives, these buildings have stood the test of time thanks to the ongoing dedication of people who recognize the importance of preserving, remembering, and learning from our shared history. Visit us throughout the month to discover what makes these places so special, and maybe even make your own party hat and celebrate with us!
