Newton Celebrates Pride Month

The <a href="https://www.newtonma.gov/government/health-human-services/commissions/human-rights-commission/-fsiteid-1#!/">Newton Human Rights Commission</a> is pleased to partner this year with the Celebration of Queer Culture (CQC) Planning Committee to host a shared Pride Month event in Newton. Newton Celebrates Pride Month will take place on Wednesday, June 3 from 5-7:30pm at Newton City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave.). The celebration will be on the south lawn; in case of rain, it will move indoors inside City Hall. Join the celebration for food, art, and resources. All are welcome at this free, family-friendly event! 2026 Newton Civic Spotlight

Join us for the&nbsp;2026 Newton Civic Spotlight&nbsp;event at Newton City Hall on April 28th from 5:00-6:30 PM! This free event is designed for middle and high school-age youth and gives you a chance to explore how Newton works — and how you can get involved. Many community organizations that support Newton residents will be&nbsp;tabling, ready to share what they do and how you can jump in. On the government side, you’ll have the opportunity to speak directly with different City departments and your elected officials about what's important to you.

MGH Mobile Blood Drive

Newton HHS will host a mobile blood drive with MGH at City Hall on&nbsp;January 14th, from&nbsp;8:30am-2pm. To register&nbsp;<a href="https://blooddonor.massgeneral.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/7055">CLICK HERE</a>.

Recovery City Screening

Join us for a special Newton screening of&nbsp;Recovery City, an award-winning documentary exploring addiction and recovery through the stories of four women in Worcester, MA. The event includes a 15-minute opioid overdose response and naloxone training, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Lisa Olivieri, featured participants, and experts from Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Presented in partnership with Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Newton Health &amp; Human Services, Newton Coalition for Community Wellness, and the Newton Free Library. *Registration encouraged; walk-ins welcome.*

Newton Celebration of Queer Culture

Newton Pride - Celebration of Queer Culture (CQC) is a free Pride event created to bring the Newton community (and beyond!) together to highlight and celebrate queer culture. Newton CQC offers educational activities and programming for all ages and interests. Join us for Pride-centered art activities, queer history education, a panel discussion highlighting the intersectionality of the queer community, a queer art display, a queer family meetup, live performances, a resource fair, food, vendors, and queer joy!

Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

Every year for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the HRC raises the Pride flag and honors an individual or individuals for their contributions and commitment to the LGBTQ+ community in Newton. Join us on Tuesday, June 3rd, at 5:30pm to honor Hattie Kerwin Derrick. The flag raising ceremony will be followed by a resource fair and ice cream!

For Teens: Stress Survival Guide Workshop

Alongside&nbsp;<a href="https://www.familyaware.org/">Families for Depression Awareness</a>, teens will learn the signs of stress and depression, identify strategies to manage day-to-day stress, and begin to create a survival guide of their own. During this workshop, a trained facilitator shares their experience of surviving stress and depression throughout their teen and young adult life. *This workshop is free.&nbsp;<a href="https://newtonfreelibrary.libcal.com/event/14460348">Registration is encouraged</a>, and you'll get a reminder if you sign up. Alongside&nbsp;<a href="https://www.familyaware.org/">Families for Depression Awareness</a>, parents and caregivers will learn how to identify symptoms of stress in themselves and family members, manage stress as a family, respond when symptoms become “more than stress”.
