Join Alyssa Goodman, PhD, professor of applied astronomy at Harvard University and research associate at the Smithsonian Institution, as she takes us on a tour of a Milky Way that she never thought she would see. Until recently, astronomers could only speculate about the three-dimensional structure of the star-forming regions in our Milky Way galaxy. Today, advances in data and data science tools allow us to explore a 3-D Milky Way — and better understand how, where, why, and when stars form. Investigate these questions and more as we expand our knowledge of our place in space — through cutting-edge technology and immersive data visualization in the Charles Hayden Planetarium.

Join the Museum of Science for an inspiring evening celebrating its yearlong Being Human spotlight, featuring special guest Dean Kamen. In this fireside conversation, Tim Ritchie, Gwill York President of the Museum of Science, will sit down with Dean Kamen — renowned inventor, founder of DEKA Research and Development, and executive director of the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI) | BioFabUSA — to explore how science and technology are shaping the future of human health. Together, they will examine how breakthrough innovations in regenerative medicine and biomanufacturing lead to real-world impact. The discussion will highlight the work of ARMI and its national ecosystem, including ReGen Valley, and explore how new technologies are accelerating treatments for diseases like type 1 diabetes (T1D) while opening new frontiers in patient care. This evening will offer a powerful look at what it means to build for the future—and how science, imagination, and humanity are at the center of it all.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as the “Daniels,” the 2022 smash hit film Everything Everywhere All at Once is a hilarious and big-hearted sci-fi action adventure. The story centers on an exhausted Chinese American woman (Michelle Yeoh) who, while trying to finish her taxes, discovers that she must connect with parallel versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse. Inspired by the 1977 NASA Voyager mission, which launched a vinyl-style recording of sounds found on Earth into space, as well as the uncertainty and isolations surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, this experimental performance begs the question: if we were to send another message into the distant future, what message would we send? Part telephone hotline, part vinyl record, and part live performance,&nbsp;Utopian Hotline&nbsp;uses real voicemails left on a public hotline to create a moment of community&nbsp;—&nbsp;inviting audience members to re-imagine our shared future. This collaborative performance, done in partnership with SETI Institute, Arizona State University’s Interplanetary Initiative, and Brooklyn Independent Middle School, is a call for audiences to join together and leave an offering of hope for humanity’s future.
