She has released six Netflix specials, most recently 2022’s&nbsp;Hot Forever. Additional Netflix specials include&nbsp;Unveiled,&nbsp;War Paint,&nbsp;Freezing&nbsp;Hot,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Confirmed Kills. Iliza’s Netflix special, 2018’s&nbsp;Elder Millennial, is the subject of&nbsp;Iliza Shlesinger: Over &amp; Over, her “fan-u-mentary” which is currently streaming and gives fans an inside look into what goes into the making of one of her specials.&nbsp;The&nbsp;Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show&nbsp;premiered on Netflix in April 2020. This fall she’ll be taping her upcoming Amazon Prime special. <a href="https://rachelecohen.com/about/" target="_blank">Rachel Cohen</a>&nbsp;is the author of&nbsp;A Chance Meeting: American Encounters,&nbsp;which has been reissued in March of 2024 by New York Review of Books Classics on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. Cohen is also the author of two other books of, including&nbsp;Austen Years: A Memoir in Five Novels, which was published by FSG in 2020 to critical acclaim. Her essays have appeared in&nbsp;The New Yorker, The Guardian, The London Review of Books, and The New York Times,&nbsp;among other publications, and her work has been included in Best American Essays and Pushcart Prize anthologies. The Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard University Presents The Norton Lectures with Viet Thanh Nguyen | To Save and To Destroy: On Writing as an Other Lecture Two: On the Double, Or Inauthenticity Timed to coincide with the release of Nguyen’s book, A Man of Two Faces: A Memoir, A History, A Memorial, this lecture highlights some of the book’s themes and problems, especially concerning writing memoir as both an individual and a collective story, the perils of betrayal, and the difference between private secrets and open secrets. About the Speakers <a href="https://vietnguyen.info/home">Viet Thanh Nguyen</a>’s novel The Sympathizer won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and numerous other awards. His most recent publication is A Man of Two Faces: A Memoir, A History, A Memorial. His other books are the sequel to The Sympathizer, The Committed; a short story collection, The Refugees; Nothing Ever Dies: Vietnam and the Memory of War (a finalist for the National Book Award in nonfiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award in General Nonfiction); and Race and Resistance: Literature and Politics in Asian America. He has also published Chicken of the Sea, a children’s book written in collaboration with his son, Ellison. He is a University Professor at the University of Southern California. A recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim and MacArthur Foundations, he is also the editor of The Displaced: Refugee Writers on Refugee Lives. <a href="https://lailalalami.com/about/">Laila Lalami</a> was born in Rabat and educated in Morocco, Great Britain, and the United States. She is the author of five books, including <a href="https://lailalalami.com/the-moors-account/about/">The Moor’s Account</a>, which won the American Book Award, the Arab-American Book Award, and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. It was on the longlist for the Booker Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. Her most recent novel, <a href="https://lailalalami.com/the-other-americans/about/">The Other Americans</a>, was a national bestseller, won the Joyce Carol Oates Prize, and was a finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction. Her essays and criticism have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, The Nation, Harper’s, the Guardian, and the New York Times. She has been awarded fellowships from the British Council, the Fulbright Program, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University. She is currently Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at the University of California at Riverside. The Tanner Lectures with Margaret Redsteer | Lecture 2: Barriers to Transforming Climate Dialogues

"Structural Barriers to Transforming Climate Dialogues" is the second of two Tanner Lectures presented by Margaret Redsteer. Margaret Redsteer’s Tanner Lectures, “Climate Futures and Structural Paradigms,” will draw on her experiences working with local Indigenous communities to adapt to a changing climate and will consider what has been left out of narratives about the challenges we face. This lecture will focus on how the historical implementation of policies led to significant failures and to current attitudes about reform of land use practices. The Tanner Lectures are free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the Broadway Garage (7 Felton Street, Cambridge). About the Speakers <a href="https://www.uwb.edu/ias/faculty-and-staff/margaret-redsteer">Dr. Margaret Hiza Redsteer</a> teaches at the University of Washington Bothell and previously served as a Research Scientist for the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Geological Survey based in the Flagstaff Science Center, where she worked on water issues for the Navajo Nation. She examines interactions of different landscape processes, including erosion by wind and water and how changing vegetation communities and climate can influence these processes and exacerbate geologic hazards. In the Southwest, she has examined aspects of drought and increasing aridity that have not been well quantified, including seasonal changes to surficial processes and ecologic conditions. Incorporating Indigenous knowledge from tribal elders about the changes they have observed has aided her research in elucidating the effects of increasing temperatures in poorly monitored regions of the U.S. and communicates the relevance of ecosystem change to the livelihoods of those who are most vulnerable. <a href="https://law.arizona.edu/rebecca-tsosie">Rebecca Tsosie</a> is a Regents Professor at the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. Professor Tsosie, who is of Yaqui descent, is a faculty member for the Indigenous Peoples’ Law and Policy Program at the University of Arizona, and she is widely known for her work in the fields of Federal Indian law and indigenous peoples’ human rights.
