The City of Quincy’s Outdoor Skating Rink 

Open seven days a week from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM for community skating. The rink will remain open through the end of February school vacation week. Public skating and skate rentals will be provided without charge again this year. The rink location has been moved to Dennis Ryan Parkway, across from the courthouse and next to the Kilroy Square parking garage. There is limited on-street parking and plenty of parking available in the Kilroy Square garage. Skate times can be reserved by Quincy residents during peak weekend hours by visiting <a href="http://quincyrec.com/">QuincyRec.com</a>. It is recommended that Quincy residents set up an account on QuincyRec.com to facilitate the reservation process. This year’s rink will be slightly larger than last year’s rink at 106 ’x 56’. This will allow an increase in the amount of people that can skate at any given time. The rink will be staffed by the Department of Natural Resources to ensure safety, order, and quality ice.

The City of Quincy’s Christmas Kick-Off Weekend 

The City of Quincy’s annual kick-off to Christmas and the Holiday season begins on the evening of Friday, November 29th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the Hancock Adams Common, located at 1305 Hancock St., with a musical performance by national, award-winning recording artist Michelle Brooks-Thompson and Band. The Common will be filled with holiday spirit with roving stilt walkers, LED jugglers, fire shows, Victorian carolers, costumed characters for selfies, free popcorn, apple cider donuts &amp; coffee, candy canes, hot chocolate, and hot and cold cider. Holiday movies will play on an outdoor jumbotron.   The evening will culminate with a sing-along and the City’s annual Tree Lighting by Mayor Thomas P. Koch and a visit from Santa. A Menorah will also be on display for those members of the community who celebrate Chanukah.  Saturday, November 30th at 12 noon, families can turn their eyes to the sky from Pageant Field, One Merrymount Parkway, as <a href="https://www.thebostoncalendar.com/events/santa-s-arrival-at-the-city-of-quincy">Santa will arrive by helicopter</a> to pay a visit to youngsters. After Saint Nick makes his grand entrance, children will have the chance to meet him and his elves, along with other costumed characters, during this unique Christmas tradition.  Sunday, December 1st at 12 noon, bundle up and park your chairs in your favorite spot for the kickoff of the 71st <a href="https://www.thebostoncalendar.com/events/city-of-quincy-71st-annual-christmas-parade">Annual Christmas Parade</a>. Generations of Quincy residents gather each year along the 2.7-mile route to watch hundreds of Christmas-themed floats, marching bands, antique vehicles and even Mister Claus himself make their way through town. As tradition has it, expect a visit from Santa to anchor the parade before he heads back home to the North Pole. The parade begins at the intersection of Hancock Street and Walter J. Hannon Parkway, continuing up Hancock Street to North Quincy High School. Santa Claus and his elves, award-winning recording artist Michelle Brooks-Thompson and Band, costumed characters, families and children of all ages, City of Quincy community members. Mayor Koch shared, “Our City’s Christmas Parade, as well as our tree-lighting and Santa’s visit to Pageant Field, have all become special traditions in our community. I hear so many families say they mark Christmas and holiday events on their calendars to celebrate with their loved ones. We hope you will come out and enjoy the season with us.”  All events are FREE and open to families and children of all ages. City of Quincy Annual Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony 

On Monday, November 11th at 10:30 a.m., the City of Quincy will hold its annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony. The Parade will kick off at Quincy High School and travel along Hancock Street. A wreath will be placed at the WWI Doughboy Statue at the corner of Hancock Street and Furnace Brook Parkway. From there, the parade will continue to Upper Merrymount Park at the corner of Hancock St. and Southern Artery where a ceremony will be held. Colonel James Croall, USA (ret.), will serve as keynote speaker. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the gymnasium of Quincy High School at 11:00 a.m. A proud City thanks all our Veterans for their service.

City of Quincy Monument Dedication 

On Saturday, November 9th, Mayor Thomas P. Koch and the City of Quincy will pay tribute to Quincy’s unwavering dedication to serving our nation. A monument will be dedicated at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery to those who served in the Persian Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan and Global War on Terror. The City will celebrate those who served and honor six remarkable veterans posthumously, Sergeant Charles T. Caldwell (Kia), Captain Jack Salenius, Private Dennis C. Thompson, Corporal Ciara M. Durkin, Lieutenant Christopher E. Smeglin, Specialist Donny Nguyen and Sergeant Macdoughlas Deegan. “We pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms and our way of life”, shared Mayor Koch. “Each of these people exemplified courage and commitment, reminding us of the true cost of liberty.” The City of Quincy welcomes the public to attend the ceremony by lining the sidewalks of Coddington Street from Quincy High School, 100 Coddington Street to Sea Street at 9:30 a.m. A parade of Veterans will march this route into Mt. Wollaston Cemetery where all can gather for the ceremony that will be held at 10:00 a.m. Remarks will be shared by Quincy natives General Jospeh F. Dunford, USMC (ret.) and General James C. McConville, USA (ret.). Quincy Veterans Services, Quincy Police Color Guard &amp; the Quincy/North Quincy High School Band will participate in the program.

2024 Greater Boston Stand Down for Veterans

The New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV) will host the 2024 Greater Boston Stand Down, a one-day event that brings together service providers and local Veterans and enables Veterans to receive immediate comprehensive and coordinated services in one place. This remarkable community event will include more than 100 service providers, employers and community organizations to provide essential supportive services to Veterans in the Greater Boston area (must bring proof of military service), including housing assistance, medical care, wellness programs, legal support, employment assistance, and prevention Services. Celebrate a Musical Journey through the Decades

The City of Quincy invites the community to save the dates for the upcoming 2024 monthly concert series on the Hancock Adams Common, “Celebrate a Musical Journey through the Decades”. Musical performances will span songs from the 1940’s through the 1990’s and include a patriotic concert. The concerts include: Music of the 40’s &amp; 50’s on May 18th from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Music of the 60’s &amp; 70’s June 22nd from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. A Patriotic Celebration on July 6th from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Music of the 80’s &amp; 90’s on August 17th from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Artists from the Quincy Arts Association will be on-site on the grass of the Common painting live during the show. All performances are free to the public. Seating will be available. Lawn chairs are allowed. Food &amp; dessert trucks are scheduled for food and drink purchases with local restaurants open for business in and around the Hancock Adams Common and downtown Quincy.
