Flying Horse Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit

The 15th annual&nbsp;Flying Horse Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit, featuring more than 70 works by New England artists opens Sept. 14 on&nbsp;the 100-acre campus of Pingree School in S. Hamilton. Free and open 7 days a week through Sunday, Dec 1 from dawn until dusk. &nbsp;Reception with the artists on Sunday, September 29 at 1:30 pm will feature remarks by Murray Whyte, Boston Globe art critic. No reservations necessary.

Don't Vote Hungry!

Don't let your family's desire for dinner stand in the way of voting in the upcoming primary election! Manchester resident Therese Melden, co-founder of Leading Ladies, a nonpartisan group dedicated to social justice and getting out the vote, has arranged for the&nbsp;Melt Food Truck to be parked outside the polls from 4 to 8 pm for the March 5 primaries&nbsp;which are located at the Manchester Memorial Elementary School. Voters can put in their orders on their way into&nbsp;the polls; then vote; and pick up their food on their way home. Even in a town like Manchester By The Sea, there can be barriers to voting. They may not be as serious as voter&nbsp;roll&nbsp;purges, polling closures, or unreasonable ID requirements, but they can still discourage attendance at the polls. People are busy with jobs and children and after school activities.&nbsp; "I know how busy families can get," says Melden. "We just want to make it a little easier for them to participate in the democratic process. Everybody's vote makes a difference, but that can be hard to feel when you are tired after a long day at work and with hungry kids in tow!"

The 13th annual Flying Horse Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit opens Saturday, September 3 on the 100-acre campus of Pingree School in the North Shore town of South Hamilton, 25 miles from Boston and minutes from apple-picking farms and gorgeous beaches. Featuring more than 50 pieces by artists working in a wide range of media and genres and from all over New England, the juried show is the largest of its kind in the region. A full-color brochure and a downloadable guide is available to visitors. Admission is free and open to the public seven days a week during daylight hours. Everyone is invited to a reception with the artists on Sunday, September 18 at 1:30 p.m. Honorary Chair <a href="Joshuaruder.com">Joshua Ruder</a> will speak.

Beating the Winter Blues

The winter months can be a tough time for many people. The public is invited to “Beating the Winter Blues,” a free panel discussion with local mental health professionals on Wednesday, November 16 at The Cabot in Beverly from 7 to 8:30 pm. The evening will offer strategies for helping ourselves, our families and friends during the dark months of winter when depression increases for many people.  This event includes popcorn and cider for all, as well as free raffle tickets for holiday gifts. Old and young are invited to attend what promises to be an uplifting evening.  "Beating the Winter Blues" is a "Community Conversation" cosponsored by the North Shore activist organization, Leading Ladies, and The Cabot Theater.
