Powwow and the People Who Bring It to Life

Join Indigenous Peoples Day Newton at the New Art Center between June 6th–8th to experience Powwow and the People Who Bring It to Life, an exhibit on Native American powwows through the lens of local photographers Scott Strong Hawk Foster &amp; Dr. Rob Adelman. The exhibit can be viewed from 5:00–9:00 PM on Thursday, June 6th &amp; Friday, June 7th. On Saturday, June 8th from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM, join us for a reception where you can mingle with the photographers &amp; other community members about powwow culture. Light refreshments will be served.

Indigenous Peoples Day Newton Movie Screening: "Beans"

Join us on Saturday, April 6th, 4:00-6:00 PM at the West Newton Cinema for a screening of&nbsp;Beans&nbsp;followed by a panel discussion! Beans&nbsp;is a 2020 Canadian drama film directed by Mohawk-Canadian filmmaker Tracey Deer. It chronicles the 78-day standoff between two Mohawk communities &amp; government forces in 1990 Quebec through the eyes of Tekehentahkhwa (nicknamed "Beans"), a young Mohawk girl whose perspective on life is radically changed by these events.

Please join us for a five-course dinner by notable Ho-Chunk chef, Elena Terry, to support Newton's 2023 Indigenous Peoples Day Ceremonial Celebration. Chef Elena is a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin and the executive chef and founder of Wild Bearies, an educational, community outreach nonprofit. She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with you. Ticket Info: This event is open to all. Tickets are required. Suggested donation $150 for single ticket and $250 for 2 tickets.
