Using foraged dried plant stalks, pine cones, nuts, acorns and more, you’ll create a unique 8” to 12” wreath. This wreath is a lovely way to bring the energy of the season into your home. Intaglio Printing Class in Boston by Hoamsy

Learn to use the Praga etching press at Reflex Letterpress! This workshop will explore simple intaglio techniques of engraving and drypoint on Plexiglas plates, easy and quick for the beginner to learn. It is recommended to bring a 5×7 image to work with for the class. The intaglio process involves building up a black-and-white image through inscribed lines, patterns and scratches. (Note: If you would like to include text, you will probably want to flip the image so it reads backwards, like in a mirror.) Attendees will learn to prepare their plates, work with a burin and etching needle, how to ink and wipe their plates, adjusting the press for printing, and how to properly pull a proof. There’s a bit of a learning curve with intaglio, so just prepare to experiment and play! Come us for a fun experience of making a handmade ceramic bowl. We'll start with a lump of clay, and together I'll teach you how to hand mold it into a large serving bowl. This workshop is suitable for beginners or more advanced students alike and can be adjusted to fit your skill level. Once you have the form made, we will discuss finishing the piece, where you'll get to choose your final colors and other details. This is the perfect experience for anyone wanting to get hands-on with the ceramic process, and experience working with clay. The final product will be your own handy-work, dishwasher, microwave and oven safe!! I will bisque the bowl for you and glaze it and you will be able to pick the bowl 2-3 weeks later. Each person will make one bowl at the event. Disclaimer: I will do my best to accommodate glaze options. However, the kiln's glaze firing can be surprising, not always what we expect. Bring friends or make friends while we learn to frost, pipe, and prepare flowers to create beautiful floral cakes. Each person will bring home a 5-inch chocolate cake decorated with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream (a silky, not-too-sweet frosting) and fresh flowers. Everyone will get hands on instruction from a trained pastry chef and be able to practice traditional and playful piping/lettering techniques on parchment until you feel confident, so beginners are welcomed and encouraged to sign up! -Some of the photos above are cakes I have made that serve as examples of designs and techniques you will learn to use, but not all are the exact size/shape of the cakes that will be made in at this event. The gateway into the world of relief printmaking, linoleum carving is both easy for beginners to learn and versatile enough for professionals to produce beautiful works of editioned art! The Reflex Letterpress linoleum carving workshop is a 2 1/2 hour class that covers the basics of carving linoleum blocks, running them on the press,&nbsp;troubleshooting problems, and making changes. The bonus of printing in a letterpress studio is that wood-mounted linoleum blocks are almost the exact height needed to print on a letterpress, with only small adjustments needed for proper inking, printing pressure and paper positioning. Blocks, tools, paper and ink all supplied. Attendees may&nbsp;bring their own carving tools or use tools available at the Press. Your host not only got his BFA and MFA in printmaking, but has taught printmaking and letterpress at various universities and at his own letterpress studio for the past fifteen years. Additionally, once the basics are covered and everyone has pulled several successful proofs, Ted will demonstrate ways of printing without a press so that attendees will have the option to continue carving and printing at home!
