The Mark Morris Dance Group returns to Boston with Morris’ newest evening-length work, The Look of Love. The piece is a wistful and heartfelt homage to the chart-topping hits of Burt Bacharach, a towering figure of popular music, newly arranged by jazz pianist, composer, and MMDG musical collaborator Ethan Iverson. Bacharach’s melodies and unique orchestrations soar with influences from jazz, rock, and Brazilian music while his longtime lyricist Hal David provides unsentimental, often bittersweet lyrics. The stage comes alive in a powerful fusion of dance and music with an exceptional ensemble of vocals, piano, trumpet, bass, and drums, led by singer, actress, and Broadway star Marcy Harriell. The pair originally met as members of the Grammy-winning Silkroad Ensemble. “Never before has such an unorthodox pair of instruments sounded so deeply powerful,” says WBUR of the dynamic, cross-genre duo’s music.

Three standard-bearers of West African musical traditions come together to celebrate Mandé Sila: the way of the Mandingo empire—symbolizing languages, cultures, music, and the entire organology of West Africa. Malian guitar player Habib Koité, kora player Lamine Cissokho, and balafon master Aly Keïta are linked by the same cultural heritage, a melting pot that inspires their compositions. They’ll be joined by percussionist Mama Koné.

Palaver Strings + little house dance: Noisefloor

Twelve musicians of Palaver Strings and eight dancers of little house dance perform&nbsp;Noisefloor, a new project that seamlessly blends music and dance—dancers are involved in the composition process and musicians are involved in little house’s movement language. Playing with the subjectivity of human experience,&nbsp;Noisefloor&nbsp;uses architecture and acoustics to transform the theater into an atmospheric cave. Musicians and dancers move throughout the stage and surrounding areas in an immersive physical, visual, and musical experience.&nbsp;

Over the past three decades, saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Joshua Redman has consistently demonstrated how to honor jazz's verities while expanding its reach in contemporary settings. He is touring in support of his latest album,&nbsp;where are we, with typically brilliant supporting partners including drummer Nazir Ebo, pianist Paul Cornish, Philip Norris on double bass, and dynamic young vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa.&nbsp;&nbsp;
