This upcoming Saturday, Krav Maga Yashir Boston, will be putting on an introductory seminar into the Israeli system on hand-to-hand combat, Krav Maga. Used by the IDF, the system has been proven to be an effective and realistic system of self-defense, not just in Israel but throughout the world e.g., it is extensively used by law-enforcement agencies and military units internationally. This seminar will teach both armed and unarmed defenses to common threats and attacks.

Beginner Krav Maga Class

Krav Maga is the hand-to-hand combat system of the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). It has been proven as an effective system of self-defense in some of the harshest environments on the planet, and is recognized internationally be law-enforcement agencies as one of the only systems of self-defense that will work in real-life violent altercations. This 60-minute introductory class introduces participants to the fundamental fighting concepts upon which the Krav Maga approach/method is based (Krav Maga is less about techniques and more about employing a fighting method - this is what distinguishes it from other martial arts and makes it such an effective fighting system). Those attending will get to practice solutions to violence, involving both armed and unarmed attacks/threats, and how to deal with multiple attacker scenarios. Most acts of violence are the result of social interactions/disputes that have gone "bad". This 60-minute seminar, will be structured in a similar way to our regular&nbsp;<a href="about:blank" target="_blank">Krav Maga classes</a>, where you will learn how to move effectively, strike pads, perform under stress and duress (this is controlled), and react and respond when surprised/unprepared etc. This is a physical class, where you will work hands-on with various partners to practice the techniques and skills that you have learnt. By the end of the class, you will be ready to take your training to the next level, by joining our regular classes.

This introductory Krav Maga class aims to introduce you to the framework of concepts and principles that provide the foundation for the Krav Maga approach to self-defense. Rather than being restricted to a fixed, syllabus of techniques, Krav Maga uses a set of fighting principles to guide and develop its solutions to violence e.g., techniques should be based on natural instinctive movements and be able to be performed when fatigued, and when under the stress and duress of a real-life confrontation i.e., when in a physically sub-optimal state etc. The structure of this seminar/class, resembles that of our regular training classes, where participants take part in “fighting games”, striking drills, and then practice techniques against unarmed and armed attacks and threats, with various progressions added in e.g., the “attacker” changing their attack in response to a defense/escape being made etc. This format allows prospective students to experience a “regular” class in a slower, more controlled manner, whilst having the Krav Maga training methodology explained to them. The class is 60-minutes in length, and is suitable for both men and women aged 18+. There is free on-site parking.

Hostage Abduction Prevention Seminar

You don’t have to be a celebrity to be abducted or kidnapped, in fact anyone can be targeted as the victim of an express-kidnapping - one where, you are abducted and taken to a series of ATM’s to withdraw cash, before being left in some remote place, usually drugged etc. In 2013 Amy Lord, a South Boston resident was murdered after an express-kidnapping, so what may seem like a financially motivated crime can and may result in a homicide. In this 90-minute seminar, you will learn about the differences between kidnappings, hostage takings, and abductions along with the criminal motivations behind them. You will learn how to make risk assessments as to the likelihood of being targeted, and how to lower/reduce your profile as a potential victim (target-hardening). You will learn physical techniques to deal with common scenarios, against both armed and unarmed assailants, and how to intervene on the behalf of others who you may see being abducted/kidnapped. You will also be given an overview, as to how the authorities and security agencies respond and operate when dealing with hostage situations/scenarios, and how to act and behave if you find yourself in one. This class will introduce you to some of the different training methods that Krav Maga uses to get you “combat ready” in the shortest possible time. Many people see Krav Maga as just a set of techniques, however a large part of what makes Krav Maga an effective self-defense method is the way it is taught. This is why in Israel the standard length for an instructor course is 29 days, with attendees already expected to be proficient in the system/approach’s techniques. Krav Maga instructor courses in Israel focus on teaching potential instructors how to teach and train people using the unique training methods that have been developed since the 1940’s. Krav Maga has a specific teaching method that differs from almost all other martial arts, and simply practicing Krav Maga techniques does not mean that you are practicing/learning Krav Maga (one of the reasons that Krav Maga cannot really be taught alongside other martial arts, such as BJJ and Muay Thai). In this class you will be introduced to some of these training methods and learn why Krav Maga training, when conducted properly, can develop an individual’s fighting skills so quickly. Head instructor&nbsp;Gershon Ben Keren&nbsp;has designed the Krav Maga Yashir system using these methods, which means we don't have to split students within the school into "levels", but can train all levels together, allowing individuals to progress at their own pace.
