ANNOUNCING: Brookline Open Studios 2024! An outdoor marketplace connecting artists, craftspeople, and the public! Join us May 4th, 2024 (rain date May 5) 11am-5pm for this free outdoor marketplace highlighting local artists in the Greater Boston area. Connect with community, purchase locally-made art and wares, enjoy live music, and explore Brookline across two different locations: - Brookline Arts Center (both inside and outside in Monmouth Park) - Station Street in Brookline Village (outside) See you there!

Opening Gallery Reception: I'M NEVER ALONE

“I’m Never Alone,” Golden’s debut solo exhibition, maps the artist’s connection to Black aliveness through their ecosystem of chosen &amp; blood family over the past 60 years. This multi-medium installation brings together the fabrics of Golden’s award-winning self-portraiture series On Learning How to Live and their debut poetry collection A Dead Name That Learned How to Live. Exploring the languages of self &amp; collaborative portraiture, family photo albums, sibling-made sculptures &amp; fashions, visual odes &amp; poetics, and the architecture of Black homemaking. By elevating the mundane, the human matter, and our makers, this exhibition highlights the tension between home &amp; history, friend &amp; family, audience &amp; company. Shrinking the miles &amp; years between Hampton, Virginia, Pocomoke City, Maryland, and Boston, Massachusetts to showcase that Black queer life has always been here. Forebearer to our own nations, foraging our own forgiveness, finding freedom inside &amp; outside the home.

Creature Feature Event

'Tis the season to make your own monsters at the BAC! We will be looking back at the terrible beasts of fine arts and film history while screening horror movies to inspire our creations of charcoal, pencil, and pastel. Come hone your darkest drawing techniques with the most malicious of muses while we enjoy craft beer from Remnant Brewery! You must be 21+ to attend this event. Each ticket holder will receive one free craft beer, with additional beers available for purchase for $5. October 9 Workshop: Maushop the Friendly Giant

Join us in bringing the Wampanoag story of Maushop to life through art and imagination! Together we will tell the story of how the friendly giant helped the Wampanoag people and use a variety of materials to recreate the tale. From tiny toothpick forests to giant paper fish, we will bring fables to life together.

Comics Workshop: Animal Edition

Make the ordinary extraordinary. Explore creating stories and characters through comic panels featuring your favorite animals and pets. Learn about what makes a good story, an interesting character, and create the first page of your own comic book. We’ll be looking at classics such as peanuts and Garfield but also new comics being made now and locally featuring furry friends.

Cyanotype Printing on Pottery

In this one-day program, students will be learning the art of cyanotype printing on ceramics! Students will use premade ceramic tiles to make cyanotype prints using found objects like leaves, flowers, and textured items. Materials are also provided to turn your print into a wall decoration! Students will engage in discussions related to Indigenous [art] practices using found materials and native plants. This process includes a mild bleaching method. Students will be provided gloves and masks while handling any potentially toxic materials.

Teen Jewelry & Metals

Spend your day exploring the wonderful world of jewelry and metals! Students will gain a general knowledge of jewelry making and metalsmithing techniques in this half day program. Techniques covered will include soldering, piercing, and embellishing in copper and brass.

Fall 2023 Open House: Art Classes for All

Art Off The Wall: Exhibition and Fundraiser

The Brookline Arts Center (BAC) will host its 9th annual ART Off The Wall Exhibition &amp; Fundraiser on March 25th from 5 to 7PM. BAC friends and supporters will join together IN PERSON for the first time since 2019 for this signature spring event celebrating art, artists and community. The BAC is welcoming supporters past, present, and future to attend this event, and we also have sponsorship opportunities for local businesses. At the March 25 event, guests can expect walls of visual, wearable, and functional art by local and regional artists who support the mission of the BAC. They can expect food and drinks, customizable forever bracelets from Ashley Vick, and art demos by BAC faculty members Moon Rodriguez Decker and Andrew Fielding.

Art Making workshop: Many Sides of Me

Join <a href="https://www.brooklineartscenter.com/beacon#burko">Jessica Burko</a> for a free workshop to create your own artwork in containers suggestive of the exhibition installation. With reclaimed materials and a range of art supplies, make work about the complexities of identity. The workshop is FREE and for people of all ages, especially children and adolescents.

Opening Reception: Natural Consequences by Marie Picard Craig

Join us at the Annex Gallery on Saturday, November 5, from 2 pm - 3:30 pm for the opening of NATURAL CONSEQUENCES by Marie Picard Craig! ABOUT THE INSTALLATION: Natural Consequences looks at how we make sense of conflicting ideas and explores the tendency and need to interpret our surroundings to reconcile our relationship with nature. Perception is nuanced, fluid and shifting, grounded in historical context, and continually shaped new by information. When facing complex problems and situations, whether personal or global, reaching beyond the obvious allows us to see how things that seem at odds with one another are intertwined. Appreciating ambiguity can be a way to see multiple perspectives and imagine alternative possibilities. Discernment takes us beyond observation toward novel ideas and creative solutions that may help restore balance among contradictions.<a href="https://brooklineartscenter.com/annex/#marie"> Learn more here &gt;&gt;</a> This gallery reception is free and welcome to all.
