Women on the Water Documentary Screening

Join us for an evening about the ocean! Learn about local seafood, fishing, and the environment, and how these intersect with the food you eat in this documentary and discussion with the cast and filmmakers. We are going to screen&nbsp;<a href="https://seagrant.unh.edu/women-on-the-water-film-series" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(54, 89, 227); background-color: transparent;">Women on the Water</a>.In honor of International Fisher Women's Day, we've set ticket price to an optional donation the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bostonlocalfood.org/about" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(54, 89, 227); background-color: transparent;">Boston Local Food Program</a>. Our program collaborates with local businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and individuals to elevate the local food makers across the food system. We appreciate any donation amount. May of these businesses are women owned. All donations help us to continue to support and help our local small businesses. Every donation from the documentary screening is put towards our Technical Assistance Pilot Program. We understand that starting and running a local food business presents unique challenges, and opportunities. The Technical Assistance Pilot Program is designed to provide targeted support to address these needs.<a href="https://seagrant.unh.edu/women-on-the-water-film-series" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(54, 89, 227); background-color: transparent;">Women on the Water</a>&nbsp;tells the stories of six women in New Hampshire who have overcome personal and societal challenges to establish themselves in lobstering, oyster farming, tuna fishing, and seafood distribution on their own terms. Discover what independence, determination, and grit look like for women making a name for themselves on the water in the Granite State.We are going to welcome the producer of&nbsp;<a href="https://seagrant.unh.edu/women-on-the-water-film-series" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(54, 89, 227); background-color: transparent;">Women on the Water</a>&nbsp;and two of the fisherfolk behind the camera. Boston Area Gleaners Farm Tour

From their fields to banana boxes! Join us on October 15th at Stonefield Farm to see how Boston Area Gleaner's rescues food. Their executive director will share their story, followed by a walk-through tour of the fields, greenhouses, pack shed, and loading docks. Learn about the different crops planted and harvested, what gleaning is, and the collection and donation of banana boxes! Boston Area Gleaners is a regional food systems organization working at the intersection of farming, food waste, and food security. Our mission is to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables across our communities while supporting our region’s farms and reducing systemic food waste. Our vision is to facilitate a reliable and fair agricultural supply chain that will improve the viability of regional farms and the health of communities that have historically suffered from inequity in the food system. Upon arrival at our headquarters at Stonefield Farm in Acton (91 Martin St), please park in the lot just beyond the white garage and greenhouse, which will be on your right. Overflow parking is available at the Jones Field Playground at the top of our street (54 Martin St). The walk down Martin Street takes approximately 3 minutes. 15th Annual Boston Local Food Festival

Join us on Sunday, September 14th (rain date 09/21) from 11:00-5:00pm on the <a href="https://www.rosekennedygreenway.org/">Rose Kennedy Greenway</a> (191w Atlantic Avenue Boston, MA 02110) as 40,000 New Englanders flood the greenway to enjoy our region’s finest food. The festival features a multitude of activities to participate in, nearly 100 food vendors, free samples, chef demos, a Family Fun Zone, a thrilling Seafood Throwdown, and our New England Village. The Boston Local Food Festival has become a Boston tradition, boasting the character of New England’s thriving food culture. Black Earth Compost Facility Tour

WE'RE TALKING TRASH - literally. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of Black Earth's Compost facility and see waste turn into wonder! On this tour, you'll get a sneak peek of one of their facilities, where you can learn about waste management and reduction, compost, and more. Stop by and meet fellow community members who are interested in food repurposing, and learn about a locally-founded compost organization right in your area! Black Earth Compost was founded in Gloucester, MA in 2011, and has expanded their services to Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Black Earth Compost collects food scraps and turns them into compost right on site! On this tour, you will get a sneak peek of one of their facilities, where you can learn about waste management and reduction, compost, and more! There’s even a prize at the end! Attend the tour and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win either a 3-month free trial of compost pickup or a $50 gift certificate for Black Earth Compost’s CHaRM program (Collection of Hard to Recycle Materials). Wright-Locke Farm Tour

Enjoy an early afternoon&nbsp;farm tour&nbsp;with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/wrightlockefarm/">Wright-Locke Farm</a>&nbsp;in Winchester on August 8th at noon to learn how they cultivate and care for their historic land! The tour will show you what crops they grow, how their Farm to Go program partners with others to make local food more accessible to the community, and you will even be able to see the first wagon that brought squash to Boston! Their farm store will be open, so you can purchase farm-fresh goodies after the tour! Wright-Locke Farm is a historic New England farm that has supported its surrounding communities for generations. Today, the farm is dedicated to growing certified organic produce shared through local farmers markets and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs. Education for all ages is at the core of Wright-Locke's mission, alongwithmodeling environmentally sustainable practices and stewarding the land and historic buildings.&nbsp;Our volunteers find a strong sense of purpose and belonging, young children &amp; students explore the natural world, seniors make meaningful social connections, and our customers enjoy high-quality products sourced both from our fields as well as trusted farm partners across New England.&nbsp;We are open to all, year-round, from dawn to dusk!
