Jewelry Workshop: Squiggle Rings

$80 for members, $100 for non-members Join Analise of Mind’s Eye Collective at BFAC Union Square for a hands-on beginner jewelry workshop where you will create your own bespoke sterling silver rings! In this 3-hour class, you'll learn the basics of jewelry making to form and solder sterling silver into squiggly free form rings. You'll have the opportunity to choose your ring thickness and test out different designs to achieve the look you’re going for. Come with ideas in mind or take the time to experiment and be surprised! Perfect for date night, girls' night out, or a fun gift-making experience, this class is limited to just 7 people to ensure personalized attention. No experience is needed, and all materials and tools are provided. By the end of the session, you'll take home a special piece or distinctive set of up to three (time permitting) of your very own handcrafted sterling silver rings. This class is suitable for ages 16+. Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring a rubber band to tie back long hair. Light refreshments will be provided by BFAC, feel free to bring your own non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.

Members: FREE! Non-members: $10 This one’s for all of you sewing/crocheting/knitting/textile lovers! Join us for a biweekly meet-up, BYOCP... (BYOCP = bring your own [unfinished or not-yet-started] creative projects!) Do you have unfinished textile or sewing projects? Do you like to complain about how many unfinished projects you have? Do you wish you could commiserate with a fun group of people in a low-key setting? Join us for a relaxing and social evening co-working session in the “living room” at the BFAC. Professional artist and fashion designer Mary Kahle of Kahle Studios will be on site to trouble-shoot and provide feedback! All experience levels and ages welcome! Snacks will be provided. Timed breaks will be enforced. (LOL we don’t need to include this)

Intro to Precision Drawing Methods (4-Week Class)

Members: $150 Non-members: $175 This beginner-friendly course introduces students to the foundational skills of precision drawing, providing tools to perceive any form through structure rather than guesswork. Students will learn a bulletproof method for drawing clean lines, accurate angles, and correct proportions with minimal need for corrections. By the end of the course, students will have developed a repeatable system for placing points, judging proportions, and connecting forms using clean, deliberate lines. These habits not only refine draftsmanship but also build the mental framework necessary for future skill-building in drawing—from figure work to perspective and composition.

BCAF: Comic Arts Panel

The Boston Comic Arts Foundation is hosting their monthly comic arts panel at the Boston Figure! Members are welcome! Picture + Panel is a monthly conversation series that brings fantastic graphic novel creators to the Greater Boston area. Discover terrific authors and fascinating stories that combine text and art through conversational confabulation. Produced in partnership by Porter Square Books, the Boston Figurative Art Center, and the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, Picture + Panel provides thought-provoking discussions for adults about this unique form of expression.​​

Circling: an Interpersonal Meditative Experience

Join Joel Tenenbaum for an evening of Circling! Circling is the practice of being with people, sharing and staying present with your live embodied experience and reactions to others. It is a meditation practice where your focus is on direct perceptions or sensations, especially in relation to others (e.g. "Hearing your experience of loneliness, I feel soft toward you.") instead of on focusing on another object such as the breath. The emphasis is on feeling what happens in your body instead of habitually reacting to it. A session of Circling is called a "Circle" and lasts typically between 30 and 45 minutes. In this session, we'll start with warm-up exercises and explanations about the practice, followed by 2 or 3 Circles. No experience necessary!

Digital Art: Procreate Workshop

Members: $40 Non-members: $50 Learning digital tools can be a difficult task, especially coming from a traditional painter! In this workshop instructor Jordan Rhodes (@jmr_art on instagram) will share the method he developed to mimic traditional gouache painting, and go over tips and tricks to simplify and master digital painting. Some topics that will be highlighted are: - Creating unique brushes by modifying the default procreate brushes - Building color palettes using hexadecimal codes that match traditional pigments - Sketching and layer management - Color blocking and layering techniques - Personalized tips and feedback from instructor - Modifying canvas settings optimized for posting finished artwork on social media *You must bring your own device, and we will be working on the application Procreate, which is a $10 one-time payment from the App Store.

Sculpting The Skull

Join artist and sculptor Adam Lubkin for a sculpture class! This workshop will focus on the proportions and structure of the human skull. Learn the large planes, subtle forms, and complex structure that make the skull so beautiful and fascinating. Students will create their own 1/2 scale skull in clay. This workshop is for all levels! Try an awesome new skill and take your skull home with you to appall and delight your friends and family!

Figure Drawing Basics

Members: $30 Non-members: $40 New to figure drawing? Maybe you’ve been practicing, but feel stuck or in need of a new perspective? Illustrator, cartoonist, and figure drawing instructor Chris O’Neill (@thumbsoneill) shares his approach to nailing proportions, making faster drawings, getting loose, and having more fun at figure drawing! Each class, Chris focuses on a fresh topic, so learn something new every time you come! This workshop will include three demos and individual instruction for each student throughout the evening.

Members: $40 Non-members: $50 Join artist and instructor Adam Lubkin at the Boston Figure to learn the basics of watercolor painting! Alex will break down the process into simple steps, going over the foundational principles of the medium: light, color, shape, and edges. Prompts and references will be provided, and you will receive individualized feedback and advice so that you walk away with a piece you are proud of. Basic drawing experience is expected, but no painting experience is required. All supplies are included.

Zine Workshop with ZineSpace

Join us for an all-ages zine-making workshop where you’ll be guided on how to construct and fill a 1-page foldable zine. No artistic background is required, and materials such as colored paper, drawing utensils, and magazines for collaging will be provided. Bring your friends and come have fun creating in community with us! Zines are a self-produced book about anything! (hence the name coming from just the “-zine” portion of “magazine,” like a mini-magazine). Inherently meant to be as low-cost and accessible as possible, zine-making is a no-expectations form of creativity where it’s not about the materials you use, but about giving space to thoughts, observations, and perspectives that would otherwise not be published or considered. Zine Space wishes to share forms of zine-making and means of self-publishing with the public as a means of soft community awareness and self-empowerment. Through zine-making, community members can explore how to freely create for themselves and alongside others without the pressure of expectation. For parking: you can park for free on the bridge on Washington street after school hours! There is also meter parking throughout Union Square.

Mastering Light and Shade for Artists

Members: $30 Non-members: $40 This workshop makes the complexities of light and shade clear and accessible for all. Artist Adam Lubkin will walk you through how to interpret the lighting you observe and translate it into your chosen drawing medium. By the end of the workshop you will have gained a deeper understanding of how light and shadow interact with objects - including the human form - and learn how to incorporate these principles into your artwork. Basic supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own! Suitable for all skill levels—perfect for beginners while offering new insights for experienced artists.

Welcome to BYO(Book)! A non-traditional book club centered around a love of reading with no assigned book 📖 The general structure is that the first 30 minutes are a meet/greet between participants where we can share what we’ve been reading, ask people for recommendations, or just simply meet new people! Then, the following 1.5 hours are dedicated time to read whatever your current novel/article/magazine/manga/comic/etc. is of your choosing. Snacks and beverages provided! There will also be a rotating stack of books available so that if you’d like to pick up something new just for the night you can!
