The Man In Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash

With his strikingly similar looks, baritone voice, and spot-on mannerisms, Shawn Barker has an uncanny resemblance to the original “Man In Black”. Delivering a truly one-of-a-kind show, Barker revitalises the true character and spirit of Mr. Cash himself, one of America’s greatest musical icons. The energetic performance features Barker in character throughout the entire evening, walking the audience through each era of Cash’s life and music, including hits like “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk The Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Hurt” and “Ring of Fire,” complete with a full backing band. Shawn Barker has been performing internationally as The Man In Black for over two decades and has performed thousands of shows, selling more than one million tickets over the course of his career. Born and raised in a working-class suburb of St. Louis, Barker took a schoolboy love for singing in church with his family and turned it into a career. The path to his current success wasn’t a straight line from gospel choir to Johnny Cash tribute act. After serving his country in the Army, Barker returned home to Missouri, took a job as a carpenter, and spent all of his free time learning how to play the guitar. He developed strength and versatility in his voice by modeling his crooning on a cast of legends – Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly and Gene Vincent. His performances quickly turned from hobby to profession, but oddly enough, Barker’s first touring gigs were portraying Elvis, not Johnny Cash. Everything changed, however, when Barker was asked to audition for the part of Cash in a Hollywood production, as it became evident to the director and Barker himself that Johnny Cash was his true calling. From that point there was no turning back. The Man In Black has become the best Johnny Cash Tribute act in the world, with many productions and brands commissioning Barker and his baritone voice for radio, TV, and voiceover productions, to include Barker being featured in a national ad campaign for Coca-Cola.

Toad The Wet Sprocket - Rings: The Acoustic Tour

Few bands have earned the kind of devotion Toad the Wet Sprocket inspires. Since forming in Santa Barbara in 1986 — four friends, Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols, Dean Dinning, and Randy Guss, met in a high school theater group and named themselves after a fictional Monty Python band. The band has spent four decades making music that, as Phillips himself puts it, reaches toward the light even when there's shadow in it. Their debut album, Bread & Circus, recorded DIY-style in a tract home for just $600, caught the attention of Columbia Records and launched a career defined by an uncompromising independent spirit. That spirit paid off: Fear (1991) went platinum and spawned top-20 hits “All I Want” and “Walk on the Ocean,” followed by a second platinum album, Dulcinea (1994), featuring fan favorites “Fall Down” and “Windmills.” Their music became the soundtrack to a generation — turning up in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek, Empire Records, and the platinum-selling Friends soundtrack — and their fans never left. “It's like a reunion of sorts,” says Dean Dinning. “It's almost like having family in the audience every night.”

moe.

Thirty-five years ago, a posse of University of Buffalo-based musician-friends got together to play music. Out of freewheeling sessions bursting withbold, genre-defying creativity and tongue-in-cheek humor, a 6-headed monster named moe. emerged. Decades later, moe.’s tireless work ethic, DIY resourcefulness, infectious songwriting, and highly-engaged fanbase—the Famoe.ly—have enabled the sextet to earn a successful career. Yet, the guys have never rested on their laurels as “jam band pioneers.” They average 100 shows per year, and regularly release vital new music, including the band’s latest album, Circle of Giants(ATO), its 13th release. Circle of Giants was almost all tracked when bassist/vocalist Rob Derhak’s 25-year-old son died tragically, but it’s no downer. Visceral and vulnerable, the 10-collection confronts life’s challenges with grace, humor, hard-fought wisdom, and jaw-dropping musicality. Creatively-invigorated by the addition of keyboardist Nate Wilson to the full-time lineup, moe. has created a mile-stone album while processing an unfathomable loss. moe. is a brotherhood, featuring Derhak, Schnier, guitarist/vocalist Chuck Garvey, drummer Vinnie Amico, percussionist/vibraphonist Jim Loughlin, and keyboardist Nate Wilson. The six-piece band came up in the primordial pouch of the early jam band scene, alongside Blues Traveler, Spin Doctors, Widespread Panic, and Phish. Lauded by American Songwriter for its “mind-bending musicality,” moe. is beloved for its sonic adventurousness, unbridled showmanship, and its witty and insightful songwriting. NYS Music has said: “moe. has redefined what’s possible within the genre, leaving a lasting impact and challenging listeners to rethink the limits of musical expression.”Since releasing its foundational album, Fatboy, in 1992, moe. has issued a vast and varied series of now-classic records. Select studio album highlights include 1998’s Tin Cans & Car Tires; 2004’s Wormwood; 2007’s The Conch (which reached #1 on Billboard’s “Heatseekers” chart); and 2012’s critically-acclaimed What Happened To The La Las.

Paul Anka

At 81 years old, Paul Anka continues to write and record. His latest two albums, Making Memories and Sessions, were released in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The albums featured new and never before recorded songs as well as new takes on old classics — notably “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” with Olivia Newton John, one of her last recorded songs, and “My Way” featuring Michael Bublé and Andrea Bocelli.
