Read and Respond - The Illustration Process with Michelle Stevens Two Tuesdays in November and December 11/19 and 12/3 from 12:00-2:00pm Location Kathryn Schultz Gallery, 25 Lowell St. Cambridge MA Admission $100 CAA Member $120 General Admission Maximum number of attendees: 10 From thumbnail drawings to final work, students will go through the step-by-step process of creating an illustration in response to an article or short story. In this class, students will review every stage of the illustration process, from brainstorming and sketching initial ideas to group critiques and finished artwork. Come practice your illustration skills and leave with new inspiration and approaches to creating imagery from text! Session 1: Read and brainstorm from text, workshop sketchbook images Session 2: Class discussions and work on final Illustrations Materials List (bring to first class) Instructor's note: I would prefer attendees to work in whatever materials they are most comfortable with if they already regularly make art, but I'll list here my default recommendation: Drawing pencils: B, 3B, 6B 1 Mars plastic eraser Small-Medium sketchbook for process work 18” x 24” Mixed Media paper for final works Pack of a range of watercolors Watercolor brush (1 Small round, 1 Large flat) Cup for Water - Pack of a range of Colored pencils Michelle Stevens ﻿Michelle Stevens received a BFA in Illustration and a minor in Sustainability from MassArt with Honors and a Faculty Choice Award. She was an Artist-in-Residence in early 2024 at the Cannery Arts Centre in Esperance / Kepa Kurl, Western Australia. A 2D artist and Illustrator, she has completed projects for Re:SET Music Festival, Boston Calling Music Festival, Boston Art Review Magazine, Trillium Brewing Company, musician San Holo with his record label Bitbird, and the Canadian National Railway. Michelle's work has been exhibited at Fitchburg Art Museum, Clark University, and Abigail Ogilvy Gallery, among others. She received the 2019 Roddy Drawing Prize at ConcordArt, and has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators NYC.
