Portraiture with Ricky Vasan 3 Tuesdays: 6/11, 6/18, 6/25 from noon-3pm in-person Location Kathryn Schultz Gallery, 25 Lowell St. Cambridge MA Admission $225 CAA Member $240 General Admission Maximum number of attendees: 10 We are excited to offer another series of portrait building classes with Ricky Vasan. This class is for both returning students as well as new students. Previous students are welcome to join and with them Ricky would love to continue working on more individualized projects. In this class we will learn how to ‘build’ a portrait. Through the lens of contemporary portraiture we will learn to mine our own personal lives and experiences to create a portrait that not only successfully captures a likeness but also a narrative. The six weeks of the course will be divided into sections of formal skill development and more conceptual narrative exploration. We will consider various methods of drawing and capturing a likeness trying to find your individualized visual language for representational drawing and painting. Materials List (please bring to the first class) Drawing board sketchbooks 9x12 inches minimum pencils, pens/ other drawing tools of preference vine, charcoal kneaded erasers pencil sharpeners Ricky Vasan Ricky Vasan is a representational painter from Dehradun, India currently based in Boston Massachusetts. He received his BFA in painting from Massachusetts College of Art &amp; Design in 2023. Vasan has exhibited his work locally and internationally and recently was an artist in residence at Galerie ISA, Mumbai where he also had his debut solo exhibition in January 2024. Vasan has been a recipient of the George Nick award, The Rob Moore Grant in painting and The Kofi Kayiga auction award. His painting ‘Two Aliens Share a Beer’ was also awarded best in show for the Cambridge Art Association’s 2022 National Prize Show.
