First-Time Boston Author Brendan Donovan Book Signing at The Corrib Pub and Restaurant

Join Boston native, educator, former Boston School Police Officer and author Brendan Donovan for an evening celebrating his debut memoir, HAPPYSAD: Getting Over the One That Got Away, at The Corrib Pub and Restaurant in West Roxbury on Thursday, September 17th from 6–9 PM. A West Roxbury native who has returned to the neighborhood, Donovan brings a distinctly Boston voice to his deeply personal, and often funny - story of heartbreak, addiction, loss, depression, anxiety and finding a way forward. In HAPPYSAD, Brendan opens up about the experiences that shaped him, including an eight-year relationship, struggles he faced behind the scenes, and his highly public transformation as a contestant on The Biggest Loser, where he lost 125 pounds in 2010. Published independently in July 2026, HAPPYSAD has already sold more than 10,000 copies through grassroots word of mouth just weeks after its release, connecting with readers through Brendan’s candid, relatable and refreshingly honest storytelling. For more than a decade, Brendan has worked with students and educators in Boston, bringing his experiences as an educator and former School Police Officer into conversations about vulnerability, resilience, relationships and the importance of being honest about the challenges we all face. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Brendan, hear about the story behind HAPPYSAD, purchase a copy of the book and have it signed by the author, all while enjoying an evening at one of West Roxbury’s neighborhood gathering spots.
