Dry January: A sober-curious conversation and beverage tasting

With a fresh year ahead and the high holidays in the distance, are you taking the Dry January challenge? Now more than a decade old, this public health initiative has become a cultural mainstay, with many people taking a break from the <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/01/03/nx-s1-5245794/alcohol-cancer-risk-surgeon-general">harmful effects of alcohol</a> for the first 31 days of the year and finding a new supportive community along the way. Join WBUR senior reporter Ally Jarmanning for a panel discussion exploring the Dry January challenge and the rise of alcohol-free lifestyles. Panelists<ul><li>Laura McKowen — author and founder, The Luckiest Club</li><li>Jana Wu — licensed clinical social worker and director of cultural integration, Mountainside Treatment Center</li><li>CJ Mutti — owner and founder, Dry Humor</li></ul>Copies of McKowen's book "Push Off from Here: Nine Essential Truths to Get You Through Sobriety (and Everything Else)" will be available to purchase from our bookstore partner <a href="https://brooklinebooksmith.com/">Brookline Booksmith</a> and she will sign following the conversation.
