Music with Nature: Secret Sounds of Ponds

Musician and author David Rothenberg has long explored live performance together with the sounds of nature, from nightingales to humpback whales to cicadas.&nbsp;&nbsp; David will make “music with nature” at two performances at Mount Auburn Cemetery this spring. On April 20th&nbsp;at dawn, he will play with a chorus of singing birds at Consecration Dell*, using his clarinet and some live electronic sounds. At dusk that same day, he will play with underwater pond sounds at Halcyon Lake*, inspired by his latest book SECRET SOUNDS OF PONDS.&nbsp;&nbsp; Rothenberg sees his interspecies collaboration as making music with the sounds of the natural world, producing something that no one species could create alone.&nbsp; *Note: Location is subject to change. Attendees will be notified in advance if the performance is moved to a different location.&nbsp;&nbsp; ...&nbsp; <a href="http://www.davidrothenberg.net/" target="_blank">David Rothenberg</a>&nbsp;has made more than forty recordings, including&nbsp;One Dark Night I Left My Silent House, In the Wake of Memories,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Faultlines. He has performed and/or recorded with Peter Gabriel, Suzanne Vega, Elliott Sharp, Umru, and Iva Bittová, among others. In 2023 he was nominated for a Grammy Award for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thebirdsongproject.com/for-the-birds" target="_blank">For the Birds</a>. His most recent work includes the books&nbsp;<a href="https://www.terranovapress.com/books/whale-music-thousand-mile-songs-in-a-sea-of-sound" target="_blank">Whale Music</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://linktr.ee/rothenbird" target="_blank">Secret Sounds of Ponds,</a>&nbsp;and the film&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nightingalesinberlin.com/film" target="_blank">Nightingales In Berlin</a>. Rothenberg is a Distinguished Professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.&nbsp;
