JP Improv 201: Tuesdays, January 6-March 10, 2025

PREREQUISITE: Please have completed:<ul><li>JP Improv 101, or</li><li>One or more semesters with a high school or college improv team, or</li><li>A beginner’s improv course at any theater (scout’s honor)</li></ul>In Improv 201, students will build on the fundamental skills they learned in Improv 101. Over the course of eight weeks, we’ll explore:<ul><li>How to add additional depth and realism to scenes by committing to prop and environment work</li><li>How to create more vibrant, engaging characters by exploring motivation</li><li>How to present a more compelling scene to the audience by thinking about stage presence, blocking, and projection</li><li>How to perform dramatic (in addition to comedic) scenes</li><li>How to play additional short-form improv games and long-form formats</li></ul>By the end of the course, students will be able to:<ul><li>Improvise scenes and long-form sets that take character development into account</li><li>Run scenes together in montages lasting 15-20 minutes</li><li>Run a short performance with minimal participation from a director</li></ul>
