How to Celebrate July Fourth 2026 in Boston for America's 250th Anniversary

Enjoy the kickoff celebration with free cake and live music along the waterfront. Stay for a fireworks show, say hello to roaming historical re-enactors and costumed entertainers, and embark on special walking tours. Don’t miss a special July 4th procession, the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Old State House, and the USS Constitution turnaround sail with a 21-gun salute. Fireworks schedule: <ul><li>Thursday, July 2 at 9:15pm <a href="https://bostonharborfest2026.sched.com/event/2Gc3J/boston-harborfest-fireworks?iframe=yes&amp;w=100%&amp;sidebar=yes&amp;bg=no">Boston Harborfest Fireworks</a> </li><li>Saturday, July 4 at 9:15pm <a href="https://joyraft.com/event/boston-pops-july-4th-fireworks-spectacular-2023-boston-400660">Boston Pops July 4th Fireworks Spectacular</a> </li></ul><a href="https://joyraft.com/event/boston-pops-july-4th-fireworks-spectacular-2023-boston-400660">Boston Pops July 4th Fireworks Spectacular</a> When: Sat. 7/4 Where: Charles River Esplanade Info: The culmination of Boston Harborfest is the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular right along the water at the Hatch Shell, and this year is an incredibly special celebration. For the first time ever, the Boston Pops will be playing during the display, with the music and fireworks choreographed together! Guest artists, Chance the Rapper, Lainey Wilson, and Trombone Shorty, will also be performing. This is a local tradition you don’t want to miss. Tips for the Hatch Shell: <ul><li>The Hatch Shell opens at noon, but lines to enter the space begin to form first thing in the morning. This event is an all-day affair that needs preparation and endurance! </li><li>Leave the backpacks, coolers with wheels, alcohol/tobacco/cannabis, glass containers, and cans at home. </li><li>Pack a picnic in a strapped cooler, bring a blanket and some card games, and wear tons of sunblock as you wait out the day with friends and family before the evening festivities. There will be pop-up activations, like a LEGO American flag assembly station, and a variety of concessions, too. </li><li>There’s no reentry once you leave the Hatch Shell!</li></ul>Transportation Tips: <ul><li>Get off at the Charles MGH (Red Line) or Arlington (Green Line) stop and walk ~10 minutes to cross the pedestrian bridge and enter the Esplanade. </li><li>Grab the $10 Commuter Rail pass if you’re coming from out of town. </li><li>Details to be announced/confirmed, but the T was free after 8:30 PM last year!</li></ul>Other Tips: <ul><li>You can still enjoy the fireworks without camping out the entire day. The rest of the Esplanade will be open (with security checks), so you can grab a seat by the waterfront. </li><li>If you want to avoid all of the hustle and bustle, cross the river and enjoy the view from the Cambridge side along Memorial Drive (get off at the Kendall Square stop)! </li><li>Looking for a late-night pick-me-up after? Check out <a href="https://joyraft.com/event/17-late-night-bars-restaurants-in-boston-boston-424128">17 Late Night Bars &amp; Restaurants</a> that are easily accessible by the T. </li></ul>GREATER BOSTON AREA <a href="https://joyraft.com/event/watertown-pops-patriotic-lightshow-watertown-1039957">Watertown POPS: Patriotic Lightshow</a> When: Wed. 7/1 Where: Watertown Info: Watertown is going all out for the United States turning 250 years old. Stop by Saltonstall Park for live music and a farmers’ market. Then, stay for a patriotic light show display. There will be a DJ, food trucks, and free fizzy sodas while supplies last. Don’t forget your blanket or lawn chair to secure your spot! <a href="https://joyraft.com/event/quincy-america-s-250th-celebration-quincy-1039876">Quincy’s America 250 Celebration</a> When: Thu. 7/2  Where: Quincy Info: Head to Quincy for a festive America 250 Celebration. There will be performances and presentations by a swing orchestra, a historian, and other local organizations and historic sites. Then, there will be a captivating live music finale.  <a href="https://joyraft.com/event/city-of-quincy-maritime-festival-at-marina-bay-quincy-1039502">Quincy Maritime Festival</a> When: Fri. 7/3 - Sun. 7/5 Where: Downtown Boston Info: Bring your friends and family to experience the Quincy Maritime Festival. Enjoy live music, roaming jugglers, pop-up magic shows, a parade, and other fun surprises right along the water. Learn about the coastal history of this town and participate in maritime activities too.  <a href="https://massachusetts250.org/event/reading-of-the-declaration-of-independence/">Boston Reading of the Declaration of Independence</a> When: Sat. 7/4 Where: Downtown Boston  Info: Make your way to the Old State House and watch a reading of The Declaration of Independence by members of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. Prior to this event, there is a parade and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Granary Burying Ground.   IN MASSACHUSETTS <a href="https://joyraft.com/event/gloucester-fishtown-horribles-parade-gloucester-1040021">Gloucester Fishtown Horribles Parade &amp; Fireworks</a> When: Fri. 7/3 Where: Gloucester Info: This beloved tradition at Cape Ann is truly one for the locals. Come dressed in your “horrible,” your silliest, most whimsical costume! Join the fun and enjoy this parade. Afterwards, there’s live music and a fireworks display along the harbor. <a href="https://joyraft.com/event/blue-hill-observatory-america-s-250th-4th-of-july-celebration-milton-1040017">Blue Hill Observatory 4th of July Celebration</a> When: Sat. 7/4 Where: Milton Info: Looking for a little getaway from the city? Purchase a ticket to Milton’s Blue Hill Observatory’s festivities. You can enjoy daytime tours, yard games, and fun activities. Then, enjoy an after-hours viewing experience of local fireworks while the Boston Pops is broadcast throughout the venue.
