Derek Gripper & Mike Block

South African guitarist Derek Gripper produces extraordinary music by fusing his country's disparate creative traditions with styles found throughout the world. He transcribes the works originally written for the 21-string kora (harp lute) for a six-string classical guitar while also drawing on Cape Town's folk music, European classical traditions, avant-garde Brazilian works, and even Indian classical music. In a truly virtuosic performance, Gripper performs with pioneering cello player, composer, and Silk Road Ensemble member Mike Block. <br>
