Danse Macabre (Choral Concert)

Danse Macabre The Seraphim Singers Saturday, November 01 at 8 PM, in person Holy Name Parish 1689 Centre Street, West Roxbury Parking in the school lot across the street (525 West Roxbury Parkway) and on street. Sunday, November 02 at 3 PM, in person and streamed First Church in Cambridge 11 Garden Street, Cambridge Parking in Harvard Square area garages and on street. Note that resident parking only signage on neighborhood streets is not in effect on Sundays. Eric Christopher Perry, Music Director Heinrich Christensen, Organ Paul Mattal, Cello Seraphim will open its 2025-2026 season with a concert commemorating the departed. The program connects the hauntingly evocative "Danse macabre" by the French poet Charles Baudelaire to music's own dance between life and death. The stage will be set with an organ transcription of Camille Saint-Saëns' 1874 symphonic poem Danse Macabre, which depicts skeletons dancing to Death's fiddling on Halloween night. The centerpiece of the concert will be Maurice Duruflé’s beautiful Requiem, Op. 9 (1948 version), his most famous composition. Other works by 20th and 21st century French luminaries will be included. For those who grieve and long for loved ones at this time of the year, we hope this commemoration of the departed will bring comfort.
