Cone-versations: Mental Health Fireside Chat Series

Cone-Versations: Student Athletes & Mental Wellness Join us for another evening of honest conversation, shared experiences, and community connection as The Anchor Boston continues its recurring fireside chat series focused on mental health and well-being. **Wednesday, October 7 at 6 PM** **The Anchor Boston | 1 Shipyard Park, Charlestown Navy Yard** Presented alongside the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health and the team behind the Boston Cone, this open-format conversation will explore the unique mental-health challenges faced by student-athletes—including performance pressure, confidence, identity, self-worth, injury, expectations, and the transition beyond competitive sports. The evening will feature: **Derek Wilson, M.Ed., LPC, CMPC** — a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Mental Performance Consultant who has worked with NCAA Division I, II, and III teams, as well as individual athletes and performers at all levels. A former collegiate wrestler and professional ballroom competitor, Derek understands firsthand how closely confidence and identity can become tied to performance. **Maddy Brogan, MPH** — State Relations Manager at Northeastern University and a former NCAA Division I track and field athlete at SUNY Albany. Maddy also represented both the women’s cross-country and track and field teams on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, giving her a valuable perspective on the experiences and needs of collegiate athletes. This conversation is designed for student-athletes, former athletes, coaches, parents, educators, mental-health professionals, and anyone interested in creating healthier environments within athletics. Guests will be invited to listen, learn, ask questions, and contribute their own perspectives in a welcoming and supportive setting. Since its inception, The Anchor has been about more than serving pints. Our mission is rooted in creating community, building unity, and offering meaningful experiences that bring people together. We believe programming and entertainment can play an important role in supporting mental health—and that using our platform to encourage honest, in-person conversations is fundamental to who we are. Both the original Boston Cone from Scotland and the Scotland Cone gifted by the Governor will be in attendance. Boston Cone T-shirts will also be available for purchase, along with cone-themed specials benefiting the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health. This event is free, open to the public, and welcoming to all. Come as you are, join the conversation, and help us build a healthier and more supportive culture around student-athlete mental health
