Cinematery: Summer of Spirits

It’s BACK! Cinematery makes it’s triumphant return to our grounds this summer and this time we really got in the spirit. Cemeteries are often associated with stories of ghosts and spirits wandering the grounds. And while we can’t attest to the presence of any lost souls at Congressional Cemetery, we can confirm the visits of some select spirits this summer. We hope that you will join us for Cinematery: The Summer of Spirits, screenings of four iconic haunted films! Cinematery is our annual outdoor summer film screenings. Held on the cemetery grounds, this one-of-a-kind event allows you to enjoy the ambiance of the cemetery after dark while taking in a classic film with friends and family. So pack your chairs or picnic blanket and whatever tasty treats you enjoy and plan to join us for an exclusive picnic at an atmospheric National Historic Landmark. Join us for an evening under the stars! Feel free to bring your own beverages and food. Alcohol is permitted and will also be for sale. Keep in mind that all guests will be ID checked upon entry. We also recommend bringing your own blankets, low lying lawn chairs, etc. Please do NOT bring chairs that may obstruct the view of those behind you. Gates open about an hour before sunset (May 7:30pm) and the movie begins at sunset, (May 8:30pm). Times are adjusted for the earlier sundown times in August and September. Reservations are required. The recommended donation is $10 per person, although you are welcome to give more. Films will be featured on Friday evenings this summer. Join us for the whole series! (Please note the rain dates)<ul><li>July 5: The Sixth Sense (July 12 rain date)</li><li>August 2: The Haunted Mansion (August 9 rain date)</li><li>September 6: Casper (September 13 rain date)</li></ul>All donations go towards our 501(c)3 nonprofit and the continued preservation of our historic cemetery. Guidelines:<ul><li>No dogs, please!</li><li>Although it is an outdoor space, please no smoking.</li><li>Please wear appropriate footwear as many of the seating areas will be in the dark after the sun goes down and the movie starts</li><li>While the tombstones in the seating area may look sturdy, it is very hazardous to lean on or have prolonged contact with them. Please, do not touch or lean on any tombstones. </li><li>In case of severe weather, please watch the website and our social media accounts for updated information about rain delays or cancellations.</li></ul>
