Chameleon Arts Ensemble – Seeking Syllables: Mendelssohn, Currier, Brahms

Chameleon Arts Ensemble resumes its 2023-2024 chamber music season with a tour de force of expressive possibility. A notorious perfectionist and restless spirit, Brahms was his own harshest critic, writing and rewriting his scores with the precision of a poet. His Piano Quintet underwent three major transformations on the way to becoming the sublime essay we know today. Mendelssohn’s Song without Words for cello and piano bridges the gap between art song and instrumental splendor, and Sebastian Currier’s Vocalissimus is a masterpiece of imagination, as he interprets – and reinterprets – a single poem through a prism of 18 different characters.
