This Wednesday evening, June 11, catch one of the most dramatic moonrises Boston will see for decades. The June 2025 Strawberry Moon will rise low over the eastern horizon under clear skies, appearing extra large and golden — the result of a rare lunar standstill that won't repeat until 2043.

The moon reaches its lowest rising point in nearly 20 years, creating an optical illusion where it looks enormous near the horizon. It’s not a supermoon, but it might feel like one.

Moonrise in Boston: 9:18pm EDT

Best places to watch the moonrise (east-facing views):

  • BU Bridge – elevated views facing east downriver.
  • North Point Park (Cambridge) – clear eastern views over the Charles with the Zakim as a foreground silhouette.
  • Constitution Beach (East Boston) – wide-open east-facing beach with excellent visibility.
  • Winthrop Shore Drive (Winthrop) – true east-facing beach views just minutes from the city.
  • Boston Waterfront – the moon will rise east over Boston Harbor and Logan Airport.
Whether you're stargazing solo or bringing friends, this is your best chance until 2043 to see the moon rise this low — and this spectacular — over Boston.
