2024 Breakfast for Hope: Celebrating 50 Years of Human Connection

In 1974, the first American branch of Samaritans was founded in Boston to offer people a place to share their mental health struggles without judgement. Fifty years later, Samaritans continues to help people find hope every day. Join us at our annual Breakfast for Hope to celebrate our 50-year legacy of human connection and take part in our mission to prevent suicide and support those affected by it. 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗽𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 Since our founding, suicide rates have increased to the highest rate since 1941, with nearly 50,000 lives lost to suicide in 2022. Certain groups, including communities of color, LGBTQ+ folks, and young people are at heighted risk. Loneliness has become a dangerous epidemic, and human connection is needed now more than ever. With your support, we can respond to this epidemic – helping people find hope, take care of their own mental health, and be a lifeline for others. 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝟱𝟬 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 We have always been dedicated to bringing people together, nurturing mental health through education, crisis services, and compassionate grief support following a loss to suicide. The results of your commitment over the past 50 years: ·      3 million calls, texts, and chats answered on our Helpline ·      180,000 people educated on how to support mental health ·      17,000 suicide loss survivors supported in their grief journeys ·      6,500 volunteers trained to provide nonjudgmental listening 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 The way we do our work has evolved over the last half-century, but one thing remains the same – YOU, our supporters, make it possible for us to help people find hope in human connection.
