You can easily take the commuter rail from north station, I’ve done it many times and the beach is incredible.

Front Beach Rockport
Take the Rockport Commuter Rail line from North Station to Rockport, then it’s a 15 min walk. Before or after, walk around Rockport - it’s beautiful
